Description of Work

The position, Medical Records Manager I, is assigned within the Central Health Information Management Department with a schedule of 8:00 - 4:30 daily.

Position assists the Director of Health Information Management in managing the Department inclusive of direct supervision of three HIM personnel, ensuring all record-related functions, duties and responsibilities are processed timely and accurately.

Position serves as Lead Coder overseeing and managing diagnostic information housed in EPIC (electronic health record) which involves supervising coding staff/assignments; assuring the accurate input of diagnostic information on applicable work queues, ensuring complete and timely updates of diagnostic data in EPIC.

The position reconciles invalid diagnostic codes with the electronic health record in conjunction with CBO personnel and other applicable staff.

The position as backup to MDC Privacy Officer overseeing compliance with privacy.

This Position Is Designated As Mandatory And Must Report Or Stay Over During Adverse Weather Events.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Recruitment Range: $45,651.00 - $68,477.00

The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

  • Prior experience in Health Information Management (medical records), preferably a developmental disability setting

  • Experience as a records analyst with inpatient and outpatient records with background in use of computer applications (MS Word, Excel, Access, Power point, etc.)

  • Training in Medical Terminology and Anatomy and Physiology

  • Demonstrated experience coding within an electronic health record system

  • Demonstrated ability to teach varying levels of staff,  communicating effectively orally and in writing.

  • Certified Professional Coder; OR, one or more years’ coding experience in medical records department/EHR system in a developmental disability setting; one year or more of supervisory experience.

Physical Requirements :

Specific ADA requirements will be discussed during interview; however, position does require the lifting of at least 20lbs, periodic walking, and the ability to sit for extended periods.

Work Schedule:     Monday-Friday: 8:00am – 4:30pm

Bachelor's degree in medical record science or medical record administration from an appropriately accredited institution; or Completion of a medical record technician program from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in medical record work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
