Position Summary
The Medical Records Specialist is responsible for reviewing and processing requests for medical records by patients and authorized third parties. Duties also include scheduling depositions and conferences with providers and/or the Medical Records Custodian.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Reviews all requests for appropriateness of release and obtain authorization as required.
- Identifies and appropriately complies with release of records requiring special handling.
- Files all properly executed authorizations to release confidential information in the medical record.
- Processes medical records and billing information requests and submit to requester in a timely manner.
- Schedules Medical Records Custodian and/or Provider depositions and conferences as applicable.
- Maintains medical records request tracking log.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience, Skills and Education
Education:
- High School diploma or equivalent;
Experience:
- One (1) year experience with Electronic Medical Health Records
- Proficiency with MS Excel Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to work independently/self-motivated
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Must be highly organized/detail oriented, and able to work within specific timelines/deadline
