What We Offer:

Want to break into healthcare but do not have direct clinical experience yet? This role is a great entry point for future nurses, physician assistants, medical students, healthcare administrators, and anyone interested in gaining firsthand exposure to a fast paced clinical environment.

 

The Medical Scribe documents patient information in the electronic medical record (EMR) under the direction of the physician or advanced practice clinician. This role supports providers by accurately capturing clinical documentation, provider dictation, and workflow activities, allowing providers to focus more on patient care and the overall patient experience. This position does not provide direct patient care or clinical decision-making responsibilities. In-person Scribes may also serve as a chaperone during sensitive exams after completing required training.

 

As a Medical Scribe, you become an important part of the care team by supporting orthopedic providers, learning clinical workflows, building EMR experience, and gaining valuable exposure to patient care operations.

What We're Looking For:
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED, required. 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, preferred.

 

  • Experience: Six months customer service environment experience in the medical field, preferred.

 

  • Additional Skills (required):
    • Working knowledge of medical terminology and technical spelling. Computer aptitude and ability to quickly learn new applications. Communication and organizational skills with focus on tracking patient care and improving patient flow. Ability to record information accurately and promptly. Aptitude to learn or have knowledge of exam, diagnostic and treatment procedures and protocols. Professional demeanor and recognition of privacy considerations for patients and families.
    • Completion of the computer-based learning entitled AMB0742 NHMG Chaperone in the Exam Room if the Scribe will also be serving as a chaperone during sensitive exams.
  • Additional Skills (preferred): Specific medical terminology training, knowledge of basic anatomy, coding and HIPAA familiarity, medical, procedural and diagnosis coding experience.
What You'll Do:

Documentation: Accurately and thoroughly document the provider's encounter with the patient as directed by the provider and in accordance with company policy. All entries made by the Scribe must be clearly identifiable and distinguishable from those of the provider and must be authenticated using standard approved templates.

 

Organization: Gather pre-visit information as requested by the provider.

 

Quality Improvement: Catalog data for physician quality reporting and other quality improvement efforts. Identify opportunities to improve processes and patient flow.

 

Teamwork: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff and management. Create professional, non-intrusive, interactions with patients and their families.

 

Compliance: Comply with all federal, state, and local regulations as well as Novant Health, Inc. policies.

 

Human Experience: Show courage through creating and sharing innovative ideas to improve the experience for both patients and peers. Round on patients to create meaningful connections and keep patients informed of visit details (delays/wait times). • This job role could have occasional exposure to radiation depending on the clinic – such as bariatrics, Orthopedics, podiatry/foot & ankle, neurosciences (spine specialists).
