Title: Medical Secretary - Laboratory - Pathology Anatomic - Danbury Hospital - Danbury, CT - Full Time - Monday - Friday 10:00am - 6:30pm 

Summary:

Provides clerical support and helps to maintains an efficiently run department. Performs complete registration ensuring positive patient identification. Accurately enters patient information including but not limited to test order entry, report data entry, and consult  reports etc. Supports' the department with all send-out testing requests and customer service functions. Handles time sensitive and confidential information.

Responsibilities:

1. Accurately performs patient identification. Performs accurate and complete registration obtaining and entering all required information such as ICD-10 codes etc. Enters information and follows registration protocols as needed to ensure accurate and timely billing.
2. Acts as a Customer Service representative for the Laboratory using department greeting. Handles all calls, verbal requests, faxing etc. Accurately and promptly records messages or forwards call as appropriate.
3. Handles and prepares, specimens, blocks and/or slides for send-out testing. Accurately documents send-out request in the LIS system and prepares appropriate paper work.
4. Reviews all pending logs to track requests and follow up on outstanding requests/reports.
5. Retrieves and files blocks and slides as appropriate.
6. Sorts, prioritizes and routes incoming and outgoing documents and other correspondence. Reports are entered and scanned into patient report as per laboratory protocol.
7. Organizes and maintains files, records, logs and other controlling systems and retrieves files as needed.
8. Uses time effectively to ensure that all work is completed accurately and efficiently. Prioritizes activities and assignments. Adjusts priorities when appropriate.
9. Maintains office supply inventory, replenishes stock as needed to ensure efficiency of operations.
10. Demonstrates the ability to use office equipment.
11. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education Skills Experience:

HS GRAD/EQUIVALENT

Other Information:

Requires a minimum formal education of High School Diploma and minimum of three years job-related experience.

Data entry and MS Word required.

Desired: Knowledge of insurance and ICD10 coding.

Salary Range: $18.13 - $34.50 Hourly
