Medical Technologist Microbiology (CLS) Roles & Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities
Perform microbiology testing and analysis on patient specimens, including cultures, organism identification, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
Process and evaluate blood, urine, tissue, wound, respiratory, and other clinical specimens according to laboratory protocols.
Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment used in microbiology testing.
Accurately document and report test results using the Cerner Laboratory Information System (LIS).
Review and verify laboratory results to ensure accuracy and compliance with quality standards.
Follow established laboratory procedures, infection control guidelines, and safety regulations.
Participate in quality control and quality assurance activities to maintain laboratory excellence.
Communicate critical test results to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers in a timely manner.
Maintain proper specimen handling, storage, and chain-of-custody procedures.
Assist with laboratory inventory management, reagent preparation, and equipment maintenance.
Support laboratory accreditation and regulatory compliance requirements.
Required Qualifications
Current Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) License.
Experience working in a Microbiology laboratory.
Proficiency with Cerner Laboratory Information System (LIS).
Strong knowledge of microbiological testing procedures, laboratory practices, and quality standards.
Preferred Qualifications
ASCP Certification.
Previous experience in a hospital or clinical laboratory setting.
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
