We are seeking a Medical Technician (Phlebotomist) to support the Veteran community in the Augusta, Maine area. This position is open to all candidates, including Locum or Traveling professionals.

Position Highlights:

  • Logistics:
    • Pay: $21.00+ / hour
    • Contract Length: 1 base year with 4, 1-year option periods
    • Schedule: Monday through Friday (rotating weekends and no on-call)
      • Day Shift – 9:00 -17:30
      • Evening Shift -15:00-23:30
    • Location: Augusta, Maine
  • Requirements:
    • Authorization to work in the U.S. permanently, without sponsorship.
    • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
    • At least 3 years of recent Phlebotomy experience.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
    • National or state-recognized phlebotomy certification (e.g., CPT ASCP, NHA, AMT) is a plus.
    • Previous experience with the VA is a plus.
    • Previous experience as a phlebotomist is a plus.

What does a typical day look like for the Medical Technician (Phlebotomists)?

You will:

  • Monday through Friday (rotating weekends and no on-call)
    • Day Shift – 9:00 -17:30
    • Evening Shift -15:00-23:30
  • Provide a full range of phlebotomy procedures, on-site, using Government-furnished facilities, equipment, and supplies.
  • Process patients before specimen collection, including review of paperwork accompanying patients and cordial guidance and assistance.
  • Collect blood samples using the Vacutainer blood collection system or a syringe with a needle/butterfly when necessary.
  • Perform proper veni-puncture, finger stick procedures, and other tests identified by CLIA 88 regulations as being waived, using appropriate techniques.
  • Perform set-up and completion of special test-related phlebotomy procedures utilizing appropriate techniques.
  • Adhere to laboratory safety protocols.
  • Perform phlebotomy-related administrative and clerical procedures of the Front Desk Section of the Lab.
  • Fully document all samples obtained per the laboratory's standard operating procedures.
  • Interacting with other employees and lab management to provide efficient specimen processing service to patients. perform centrifugation procedures as instructed by lab management.
  • Collect and process urine samples for both and/or timed collections for testing. Correctly
  • Deliver collected blood and urine samples to the appropriate departments at determined times.

What qualifications do you look for?

You might be the professional we're looking for if you have:

  • Authorization to work in the U.S. permanently, without sponsorship.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • At least 3 years of recent Phlebotomy experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • National or state-recognized phlebotomy certification (e.g., CPT ASCP, NHA, AMT) is a plus.
  • Previous experience with the VA is a plus.
  • Previous experience as a phlebotomist is a plus.

If selected, candidates will need to complete credentialing and onboarding requirements consistent with VA medical staff processes.
