Job Summary: 

The Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist performs a variety of laboratory tests, many of which are complex, involve numerous steps and techniques and require use of professional judgement. Tests may be performed in Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, Microbiology, Blood Bank, Serology and Urinalysis. Professional application of the principals, theories, and techniques of Medical Technology are used to produce reliable test results. The Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist will report to the Laboratory Supervisor and will be a technical resource in one or more sections of the laboratory. The Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist is able to cover for the Supervisor in case of absence.

Minimum Requirements: 

• Level of education
  • Equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree with specialized training in Medical Technology or directly related field. Certified as a MLS by ASCP and maintains certification while employed.
  • Equivalent to an Associates Degree with specialized training in Medical Technology or directly related field. Certified as MLT by ASCP and maintains certification while employed.
  • Education required to be registered by American Medical Technologist (AMT) with 2-3 years of similar lab experience.
  • Education required to be registered by the Federal government/ and Human Resources (HHS) with 2-3 years similar lab experience.

  • 2 years’ experience in a hospital laboratory setting.
