Job Summary and QualificationsUnder the direction of the Manager, Administrative Director and Medical Director, the lead medical technologist performs clinical testing in one or more of the following areas: blood bank, chemistry, serology, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, special chemistry, microbiology and manual tests. The lead technologist obtains or receives specimens, performs laboratory tests according to written procedures, understands methods and principles, performs and evaluates quality control on a daily basis and informs the Administrative Director or Manager of issues. The lead technologist performs preventative maintenance on laboratory instrumentation, interpret results as to their accuracy, acceptability and critical limits and organizes work to meet established deadlines and record all data obtained. Works actively and cooperative with nursing and other hospital staff to ensure timely patient care. The lead medical technologist is responsible for meeting all regulatory requirements for their respective departments and assume overall laboratory supervision in the absence of laboratory management. The lead medical technologist is responsible for coordinating instruction and documentation on new employees and students, performs competency testing in their respective departments and contributes to employee evaluations. What qualifications you will need: Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology from an accredited college or university and successful score on a national examination for certification approved by the State Board; or completion of three years of academic study with a minimum of 90 semester hours at an accredited college or university in a curriculum involving biological or physical science and at least 12 months training at a school of medical technology approved by a national accrediting agency and pass a national examination for certification approved by the State Board; or a Bachelor's degree in one of the chemical, physical or biological sciences at an accredited college or university, have at least one year of additional full time experience or training in the specialty or subspecialty in which he/she performs tests and pass a national examination for certification approved by the State Board. Current State license (within six months of hire date) or provisional license per State regulations as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist General Supervisor license is required when working alone.Five (5) years' experience as a medical technologist in a large clinical laboratory. Generalist experience in all areas of the laboratory is preferred.
