Position Overview:
The Medical Technologist performs clinical laboratory testing and supports occupational health services by ensuring accurate, timely, and high‑quality test results. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to operate and maintain laboratory analyzers. The Medical Technologist will also be cross‑trained in additional occupational health testing procedures.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform venipuncture and be proficient in collecting blood samples.
  • Handle and process blood and urine specimens according to established protocols.
  • Run calibrations, quality control samples, proficiency testing samples, and patient samples using laboratory analyzers.
  • Review, interpret, and verify laboratory test results; accurately document results in the electronic medical record system.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and troubleshooting on laboratory analyzers to ensure proper instrument function.

Additional Duties:

  • Train and perform basic occupational health procedures including vision testing, ECGs, and recording vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, oxygen saturation, and temperature).
  • Complete a NIOSH‑approved Spirometry training course to become proficient in pulmonary function testing.
  • Complete a CAOHC‑approved Audiometry certification course to perform audiometric hearing tests.

Licensure and Education Requirements:

  • Must hold a current Tennessee license as a Medical Technologist (also known as Medical Laboratory Scientist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist).
  • Associate’s degree or higher in a related field.
  • Minimum of 2–5 years of relevant clinical laboratory experience.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality and accuracy.
  • Ability to multitask and maintain professionalism in a clinical setting.
