Position Summary
Solvet Services is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Transcriptionist to provide high-quality transcription services in support of the Memphis VA Medical Center. The Medical Transcriptionist is responsible for accurately transcribing, editing, and proofreading medical documentation dictated by physicians and other healthcare providers while ensuring compliance with Veterans Health Administration (VHA), HIPAA, and Solvet Services quality standards.
The ideal candidate possesses excellent knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, pharmacology, diagnostic procedures, and healthcare documentation practices. This position plays a critical role in ensuring timely, accurate, and confidential patient medical records that support quality patient care.
Contract Length: Base Year - Plus 4 Option Years
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Transcribe medical dictation into accurate, complete, and properly formatted electronic health records.
Review and edit transcribed reports for grammar, spelling, punctuation, consistency, and medical accuracy.
Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems and transcription software to complete assignments efficiently.
Verify unfamiliar medical terminology, medications, diagnoses, and procedures using approved reference materials.
Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA, VA regulations, and organizational policies.
Meet established productivity, turnaround time, and quality assurance standards.
Communicate professionally with providers and clinical staff to clarify unclear or incomplete dictation when necessary.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ongoing training as required.
Maintain current knowledge of medical terminology, healthcare documentation standards, and VA documentation requirements.
Perform other related duties as assigned by Solvet Services management or the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR).
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Completion of a Medical Transcription program or equivalent experience.
Minimum of two (2) years of recent medical transcription experience in an acute care hospital, specialty practice, or government healthcare setting preferred.
Excellent English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and proofreading skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and electronic medical record systems.
Ability to type accurately with a high degree of speed and efficiency.
Strong listening, comprehension, and editing skills.
Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of sitting and computer use.
Frequent keyboarding and repetitive hand movements.
Ability to view computer monitors for extended periods.
Occasional lifting of office materials up to 20 pounds.
Security Requirements
Must successfully pass all required background investigations and credentialing requirements necessary for access to VA facilities.
Must comply with all Veterans Affairs security, privacy, cybersecurity, and information protection policies.
Must maintain eligibility to work on federal government contracts.
