GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Responsible for the operation of medium road maintenance equipment. Performs moderately complex equipment operation duties for road, bridge, vegetation, sign making, drainage conveyance, ferry maintenance; nuisance control, environmental site, landfill, and transfer station maintenance control and/or construction. Operates all equipment and performs all tasks of lower-level classification within this job series.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the direct supervision of a supervisor or other lead worker position, which assigns work, observes performance, and inspects work upon completion for conformance to road maintenance standards.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervision of other employees is not a responsibility of positions within this classification but duties may include exercising lead direction over a small work crew.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of the operation, maintenance and minor repair of road, bridge maintenance and/or vegetation control equipment; state laws pertaining to operation of motor vehicles and equipment on roads and highways; technical and procedural knowledge of work methods required to perform in specialty are assigned; materials, methods and equipment commonly employed in performing the duties within the specialty area assigned; safety practices and methods to perform efficiently within the specialty area.
Skill and ability to perform strenuous manual work under hazardous conditions and adverse weather conditions; establish and maintain good working relationships with coworkers and the public. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted; good mechanical aptitude and dexterity; good reading comprehension skills; good oral and written communication skills; in the performance of specialized construction work.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Operates a motor vehicle; sees using depth perception; stands; sits up to a half an hour at a time; moves about the work area; bends forward; stoops; reaches overhead; lifts and carries up to 50-100 lbs. unassisted for up to 50 feet; pushes and pulls up to 300 lbs.; moves carts weighing up to 300 lbs.; work is performed in a field environment or a simple office structure; office work includes the use of a computer using word processing and email programs or programs specific to the position; work in inclement weather conditions sometimes working in close proximity to roadway traffic; must be able to traverse rough and uneven terrain; climb up on vehicles to inspect load; work around compostable materials; operates a keyboard; uses rapid mental/hand/eye coordination; sees using depth perception; speaks clearly and audibly; reads a 12 pt. font; distinguishes colors and shades; hears a normal level of speech; works in areas that may be exposed to heat, cold, humidity, smoke, dust, vibration, noise, and chemicals; works in areas that may be uneven or wet; uses ladders and/or scaffolding; works in areas that may be exposed to blood or body fluids.
PUBLIC SERVICE LOAN FORGIVENESS
Marion County is a qualifying public employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program, full-time employees working at the County may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Student Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan. Questions about your student loan eligibility should be directed to your loan servicer or the US Department of Education.
VISA SPONSORSHIP
Marion County does not offer VISA sponsorship. Within three days of hire, you will be required to complete the US Department of Homeland Security's I-9 form confirming authorization to work in the United States.
