Classification: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Location: On-site – Phoenix, AZ
Salary Range: $22/hour
Schedule:40 hours per week; Tuesday-Saturday; some additional weekend shifts required; flex and partial remote opportunities available.

Membership Responsibilities
- Serve as the main point of contact for all membership inquiries—phone, email, and in person.
- Manage the full membership lifecycle: signups, renewals, benefits, and outreach.
- Maintain accurate and current records in the CRM system; generate reports and analyze trends.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to strategize membership growth and retention.
- Provide on-site guest support and recruit members during events and public hours.
- Plan and implement exclusive member programs, events and benefits.
- Collaborate with Marketing to create and manage member communications—newsletters, benefit updates, and promotions.
- Cultivate relationships with higher-level members and gather feedback.
Volunteer Responsibilities
- Lead recruitment, on-boarding, and scheduling for all volunteer roles including docents, garden volunteers, and special event support.
- Maintain and manage volunteer database; generate schedules and performance reports.
- Supervise Saturday volunteer activities, serving as the on-site coordinator.
- Coordinating with departments leads to ensure adequate volunteer training, coverage, and job performance evaluations.
- Develop continuing education and enrichment opportunities for volunteers.
- Lead the planning and execution of the annual Volunteer Appreciation event.
- Assist with private tours and docent-led programming in collaboration with the Education Curator.
General
- Deliver outstanding omotenashi (hospitality) to all guests, members, and volunteers.
- Assist with special events and onsite programs as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in membership services, volunteer coordination, or a related field.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a customer-first mindset
- Experience with CRM or volunteer management software; proficient with Microsoft 365 and Zoom.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while also thriving in a collaborative environment.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.; ability to stand and walk outdoors approximately 30–50% of the time.
- High levels of motivation, adaptability, and enthusiasm for Japanese gardens and/or Japanese arts and culture.
- Japanese language proficiency is a plus.
- NAI (National Association for Interpretation) certification is a plus.
