Overview:

This position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Membership & Wellness Associate is a hybrid position that includes all responsibilities of our Membership Services Associate with the added opportunity to support the YMCA's health and wellness initiatives by leading fitness programming, conducting wellness orientations, providing personal training, facilitating small group training, and helping members build healthy lifestyles through meaningful engagement and relationship building.

Responsibilities:

Membership Services

  • Welcome members, guests, and program participants while creating a positive first impression.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and resolve concerns professionally.
  • Process memberships, registrations, payments, account updates, and facility access.
  • Conduct membership tours and support membership sales and retention.
  • Promote YMCA programs, services, and special events.
  • Ability and understanding of all opening, closing, and safety procedures.

Health & Wellness

  • Conduct wellness center orientations for new and existing members.
  • Teach or substitute for group fitness classes based on certifications and branch needs.
  • Lead small group training sessions.
  • Provide introductory personal training sessions and wellness consultations.

Member Engagement & Relationship Building

  • Develop positive relationships with members of all ages and abilities.
  • Proactively engage new members through orientations, follow-up communication, and program recommendations.
  • Promote and encourage participation in YMCA wellness programs and events.
  • Model YMCA core values in every interaction.

Facility & Equipment Oversight

  • Monitor the wellness center for safety and proper equipment use.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of equipment and areas.
  • Report maintenance concerns promptly.

Safety & Risk Management

  • Ensure a safe environment for all members.
  • Enforce YMCA policies and wellness center guidelines.
  • Respond to emergencies and complete incident reports.
  • Maintain required certifications and compliance training.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, or related health field preferred.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification required (or ability to obtain within 90 days).
  • Previous customer service experience preferred.
  • Group Fitness Instructor, Personal Trainer, Strength & Conditioning, or Health Coach certification preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Work is performed in both a customer service environment and an active fitness center setting.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, demonstrate exercises, and lift/move equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to teach fitness classes and respond appropriately in emergencies.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
