This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Santee-Wateree Mental Health Center (SWMHC), 134 Church Street, Bishopville, SC 29010.

Under general supervision, you will provide advanced counseling and emergency services in the complex areas of mental health for children, adolescents and families within the Center outpatient program, co-located in the public school as part of the SB Expansion Project. Execute specialized CAF programs and services as directed.

Responsibilities for the Mental Health Professional I:

  • Provide school-based and outpatient mental health services to a caseload of children, adolescent, and their family with sensitivity to cultural differences to include assessment, diagnosis, individual, group and family therapy, and crisis management, utilizing skillful intervention techniques. Provide case management or ancillary services to families served as needed to assist in accessing appropriate medical, social, educational, and other needed Services.
  • Attend meetings as necessary to assist clients in meeting treatment goals to include but not limited to IEP, DSS, AND DJJ staffings, interagency staffings, and treatment team meetings. Provide consultation to other community agencies and organizations as necessary to facilitate service provision and coordination of client services. Develop and maintain professional relationships with other agencies and organizations in the community which may provide services to the CAF population through avenues such as education presentations and cross training opportunities. Prepare required/requested reports to other agencies/organizations to facilitate client access or utilization of needed services.
  • Ensure appropriate service authorization and documentation. Formulate treatment plans for clients. Maintain client case files according to OMH Quality assurance and CARF standards. Adheres to requirements of OMH Corporate Compliance Plan. Maintain minimum monthly productivity as directed by the Center and OMH.
  • Provide emergency services in the clinic, Adolescent and Family Center during both work hours needed and after hours as scheduled.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A master's degree in guidance, counseling or the social sciences or related field.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to operate non-adaptive vehicles.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to complete MAPS and other required training.
  • Travel throughout the SWMHC catchment area as directed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bi-lingual abilities in English and Spanish (or other language) are a plus.
  • Experience working with Children, Adolescence and Families with Serious Mental Illness, (SMI).
