Mental Health Worker

Experienced and aspiring mental health professionals are encouraged to consider a Mental Health Worker position with Liberty Healthcare.

Work setting & client population

Liberty Healthcare operates a 10-bed acute psychiatric stabilization unit which serves adults who are justice-involved and experiencing acute mental illness.

The unit is located onsite at the Maguire Correctional Facility - a San Mateo County jail located at 300 Bradford Street in Redwood City, CA 94063.

The unit admits and treats patients who are under the conditions of an involuntary civil commitment and provides individualized assessment and treatment interventions aimed at achieving psychiatric stability as soon as clinically appropriate. Services are trauma-informed and rooted in the recovery model.

Mental Health Worker responsibilities

• Establishing therapeutic relationships with patients

• Leading therapeutic recreation activities with individuals and groups

• Monitoring patient activity and behavior

• Promoting a positive therapeutic milieu

• Managing aggressive patient behaviors through appropriate intervention techniques

• Participating in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings

• Documenting therapeutic interventions, observations, and treatment in medical records

• $30.00 per hour

Work schedule

• You will work per diem (as you are needed and when you are available)

• Weekday and weekend shift options 

• Three shift options: days from 6:45 am to 3:00 pm, evenings from 2:45 pm to 11:00 pm, and nights from 10:45 pm to 7:00 am

Skills & Requirements

Qualifications

• Experience supporting people with mental illness

• Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or a related human services field is preferred

• Experience working in a jail, prison, psychiatric hospital, mental health setting or human services program is preferred
