    MEP/CX- PROJECT MANAGER

    The primary role of the MEP-Cx Project Manager is to lead the planning, coordination, execution, and successful delivery of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, controls, and specialty building systems on complex construction projects. The position provides hands-on technical support and leadership to the project team from conceptual design through project handover while managing project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and client expectations. The MEP Project Manager serves as the primary technical resource for the project team, collaborating with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and internal operations staff to ensure engineered systems are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contract requirements. This role proactively identifies project risks, develops solutions, drives successful project outcomes, and develops and enhances customer relationships through excellent service while maintaining McGough's commitment to operational excellence. The MEP Project Manager also plays an active role in mentoring junior staff, supporting business development efforts, and advancing company standards and best practices.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Required:

    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related engineering discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in MEP engineering design, facility management/operations, or construction management.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire protection, controls, and specialty building systems.
    • Demonstrated expertise in the design, installation, operation, or construction management of engineered systems for complex projects such as mission critical facilities, semiconductor fabrication plants, hospitals, pharmaceutical facilities, central power or cooling plants, water/wastewater facilities, advanced manufacturing, and similar technically complex projects.
    • Strong understanding of construction scheduling, budgeting, procurement, commissioning, and project controls.
    • Ability to communicate effectively across multiple levels of an organization and convey technical topics to non-technical audiences.
    • Strong attention to detail with the ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple project tasks concurrently.

    Preferred:

    • Professional Engineer (PE) registration.
    • Ability to navigate REVIT and AutoCAD documents; experience with Procore, Bluebeam Revu, Revizto, and Autodesk Construction Cloud.
    • Experience supporting Design-Build, CMAR, or Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) projects.
    • OSHA 30 Certification.
    • LEED Accredited Professional, Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP), or similar industry certification.
    • Experience developing project estimates and supporting preconstruction services.

    CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

    Pre-Construction Phase Technical Expertise

    • Lead constructability reviews and interdisciplinary coordination efforts during project planning.
    • Review A/E drawings, specifications, and contract documents for compliance with owner requirements, applicable codes, constructability, industry-standard practices, optimization opportunities, and project objectives.
    • Participate in page-turn reviews with the client and A/E team to identify design, coordination, constructability, and scope issues.
    • Collaborate with owners, architects, engineers, and preconstruction teams to optimize engineered system designs.
    • Develop bid instructions and detailed technical scopes of work for MEP subcontractors and suppliers to minimize scope gaps and coordination conflicts.
    • Evaluate subcontractor qualifications, cost proposals, and technical capabilities.
    • Identify long-lead equipment and develop procurement strategies to support project schedules.
    • Lead value engineering initiatives and identify opportunities to improve constructability, quality, and cost efficiency.
    • Support project estimating, budgeting, scheduling, and risk assessments.
    • Participate in client presentations and project pursuit activities.

    Construction Phase Technical Leadership

    • Lead coordination of all MEP subcontractors and specialty trade partners throughout construction.
    • Lead or support the submittal, Request for Information (RFI), substitution request, and change management processes, including interpretation of contract documents and resolution of technical questions.
    • Review technical submittals and engineering documentation to ensure compliance with contract requirements.
    • Monitor project budgets, forecasts, cost reports, and financial performance for MEP scopes.
    • Coordinate procurement activities and monitor material and equipment deliveries.
    • Facilitate coordination meetings with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and internal project teams.
    • Resolve complex technical, constructability, and installation challenges while minimizing schedule and budget impacts.
    • Monitor construction progress and implement corrective actions as necessary.
    • Review the project schedule and assist in developing recovery schedules and detailed breakout schedules as needed.
    • Ensure compliance with quality standards, commissioning requirements, and project specifications.
    • Promote a culture of safety and operational excellence throughout project execution.
    • Develop and maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication and exceptional service.z

    Start-Up & Close Out Technical Expertise

    • Lead development and execution of commissioning strategies for engineered systems; review drawings and specifications to verify operational requirements and adequate provisions for testing and pre-commissioning activities.
    • Coordinate and provide technical oversight for startup of major equipment and systems with commissioning agents, equipment manufacturers, subcontractors, and facility personnel.
    • Oversee functional testing, balancing, and system validation activities.
    • Provide technical oversight and assistance for complex controls systems, including instrumentation and controls (I&C), building automation systems (BAS), supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), and energy management systems (EMS).
    • Monitor completion of punch list items and project closeout requirements.
    • Review operation and maintenance manuals for accuracy and completeness.
    • Coordinate owner training and turnover activities.
    • Review engineered-systems closeout documentation for completeness and compliance with contract requirements, including warranty documentation and required deliverables.
    • Support post-occupancy activities and warranty resolution.

    Other Operational Areas

    • Develop and implement company engineering standards and best practices.
    • Provide technical training to Project Management and site staff on engineered systems.
    • Maintain and pursue knowledge of current and developing technologies; review industry performance, analyze trends, and maintain industry contacts.
    • Support continuous improvement initiatives across project delivery teams.
    • Assist with technical presentations and business development pursuits.
    • Participate in strategic planning for engineering services and operational improvements.
    • Promote collaboration across Operations, VDC, Safety, Quality, and Preconstruction teams.

    Team Leadership, Mentoring & Professional Development

    • Provide leadership and technical guidance to Project Engineers and Assistant Project Managers.
    • Support performance development through coaching, mentoring, and knowledge sharing.
    • Delegate responsibilities while providing appropriate oversight and accountability.
    • Foster a collaborative, high-performing project environment.
    • Support recruiting, onboarding, and development of engineering staff.
    • Encourage innovation, continuous learning, and professional growth across project teams.
    • Participate in internal leadership development programs.
    • Pursue professional certifications and continuing education.
    • Expand leadership responsibilities through progressively larger project assignments.

    Other Duties as assigned

    • Participate as an active member of the Engineering Services Team.
    • Collaborate with Operations, Preconstruction, Safety, VDC, Business Development, and Executive Leadership to support company initiatives.
    • Represent McGough in meetings with owners, design partners, subcontractors, and industry organizations.
    • Support organizational initiatives that improve project delivery, quality, safety, innovation, and client satisfaction.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT/TRAVEL

    • This is a traveling position; regular travel to project jobsites is required.
    • Travel requirements will vary depending on project assignment and may include overnight travel.
    • Ability to work from both office and construction site environments.
    • Primary office locations may include Ellendale, ND; Bismarck, ND; and Odessa, TX, depending on assignment.
