MEP Director
Minneapolis, MN | Direct Hire | $180,000 - $200,000


Konik is partnering with a general contractor that is seeking to add an MEP Director to mechanical, electrical ,and plumbing operations across a regional project portfolio. This is a critical leadership role overseeing complex commercial, industrial, infrastructure, and mission-critical projects throughout the upper Midwest.

You will act as the lead MEP authority supporting both preconstruction and project execution while expanding the company’s presence in complex mechanical and process-driven markets. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of technical expertise, operational leadership, business development support, and hands-on project involvement.


MEP Director Responsibilities:

  • Lead regional MEP operations across commercial, industrial, and infrastructure construction projects throughout the Midwest
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to a growing team of MEP Managers while supporting Project Managers, Superintendents, and field operations teams
  • Support preconstruction efforts including constructability reviews, budgeting, scheduling, value engineering, and risk assessments
  • Serve as a technical resource for complex MEP coordination challenges involving HVAC, electrical, plumbing, controls, process piping, and building systems integration
  • Collaborate closely with owners, engineers, subcontractors, and internal leadership teams throughout project development and execution
  • Help pursue and support strategic growth initiatives within water/wastewater, industrial, and heavy mechanical construction markets
  • Monitor project financial performance, staffing utilization, operational effectiveness, and MEP quality standards across the region
  • Drive a culture of collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, and hands-on leadership within the MEP group


MEP Director Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering required
  • 12+ years of commercial construction MEP experience with progressively increasing leadership responsibility
  • Strong background supporting large-scale commercial or industrial construction projects from preconstruction through execution
  • Experience with water/wastewater, industrial process piping, oil & gas, or other heavy mechanical environments strongly preferred
  • Understanding of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, controls, commissioning, and integrated building systems
  • Experience working for a General Contractor preferred, though senior-level mechanical subcontractor leadership experience will also be considered
  • Strong leadership, communication, client relationship, and operational management skills
  • Comfortable operating in both strategic leadership and hands-on project support capacities
  • Ability and willingness to travel regionally throughout the Midwest, approximately 25–30%
