MEP Estimator/Preconstruction Project Manager

The enterprise MEP Estimator/Preconstruction Project Manager is Samet's company-wide authority on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing estimating. Working across every office and market, you'll lead and standardize how we estimate MEP systems, bringing consistency, rigor, and best practices to preconstruction firmwide. It is a senior role with meaningful responsibility for cost accuracy, schedule, and quality, and real influence over how Samet builds.

Your mission is straightforward: support preconstruction teams in every office in delivering every project The Samet Way — on budget, on schedule, and at a level of quality that meets or exceeds what our clients expect. If you want to own MEP estimating at an enterprise level and shape how it's done across a growing firm, this is where you do it.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as the enterprise MEP estimating subject-matter expert, supporting preconstruction teams in every Samet office and resolving complex MEP scope and pricing questions.
  • Prepare and oversee detailed cost estimates, quantitative surveys, life cycle cost analyses, and value engineering studies of mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems for institutional, commercial, and industrial facilities across all Samet markets.
  • Develop and maintain standardized MEP estimating templates, tools, historical cost data, and best practices used company-wide.
  • Partner with office and regional leaders to ensure consistent MEP estimating approaches and quality across the organization.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to estimators and preconstruction staff on MEP systems.
  • Prepare written scopes of work and detailed plan and specification reviews.
  • Assist other Samet team members with civil, architectural, and/or structural preconstruction services, as required.
  • Assist in developing the CPM project schedule.
  • Conduct field inspections and coordinate project delivery.
  • Build client and internal-customer confidence by exceeding expectations, solving problems quickly, and following through on commitments.

What You Bring

  • A BS degree in a construction-related field (civil/mechanical/electrical engineering, construction management, construction technology, etc.).
  • 7+ years of MEP estimating in a construction environment, including experience supporting multiple offices, markets, or project types.
  • Demonstrated ability to standardize estimating practices, build tools and templates, and influence across teams.
  • A working knowledge of Sage Estimating Software (preferred).
  • Previous estimating/project management experience (preferred).
  • Experience preparing detailed energy modeling studies (preferred).
  • LEED Accredited Professional (preferred).
  • Primavera (P6) scheduling experience (a plus).
  • Thorough working knowledge of MS Office, including Word and Excel.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and clear written and verbal communication.

Additional Requirements

Physical Demands: Primarily an office-based role with periodic visits to active construction sites. While performing office duties, regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers to handle equipment and files, reach, talk, see, and hear. During site visits, may be required to stand, walk (including on rough or uneven surfaces), climb stairs or ladders, bend, and wear appropriate PPE. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Work Environment: A combination of a professional office environment and active construction sites in various stages of completion, with noise and light levels ranging from low to high. Unpleasant or potentially harmful fumes may occasionally be present (proper PPE provided). Temperature varies by location and season. Travel between offices and project sites required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Sage Estimating, and Bluebeam; familiarity with Primavera (P6) and other industry-standard construction software. Proficiency in SharePoint and the ability to collaborate via Zoom or Teams and type professional correspondence.

Math Ability: Able to perform detailed quantity takeoffs and cost calculations; apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations; and work with concepts such as rate, ratio, and statistical inference.

Reasoning Ability: Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions, plans, and specifications.

Certificates and Licenses: A valid driver's license is required. LEED Accredited Professional preferred.
