Description
About the role
The Merchandising Director owns the strategic direction and financial performance of Baltic Born's product assortment. You will lead a team of buyers responsible for procuring hundreds of thousands of units of apparel annually, ensuring the right product, in the right quantity, at the right time. This is a highly visible leadership role that partners closely with planning, design, marketing, and executive leadership to drive profitable growth.Describe the role and team the candidate will be joining
What you'll do
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of buyers, setting clear goals and building a high-performance merchandising culture.
Own the merchandise budget, driving sales, margin, and inventory turn targets across all categories.
Set seasonal buying strategy and assortment plans based on trend analysis, sales data, and customer insights.
Partner with planning and allocation teams to ensure optimal inventory levels across styles, sizes, and channels.
Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery windows with vendors and manufacturing partners to protect margin and speed to market.
Analyze sell-through, weekly sales, and market trends to make timely in-season chase and markdown decisions.
Collaborate cross-functionally with design, marketing, ecommerce, and creative teams to align product strategy with brand direction.
Evaluate and develop vendor relationships, sourcing new partners to diversify and strengthen the supply chain.
Report on category and team performance to executive leadership, translating data into actionable strategy.
Stay ahead of fashion trends, competitive landscape, and customer preferences to keep the assortment fresh and differentiated.
Qualifications
7+ years of experience in apparel buying or merchandising, including 2+ years leading a buying team, ideally in women's fashion ecommerce.
Proven track record managing multi-million dollar merchandise budgets and delivering against sales and margin targets.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into buying and assortment decisions.
Excellent negotiation skills and experience managing vendor relationships, including overseas manufacturing partners.
Demonstrated leadership ability with experience coaching, developing, and managing a team.
A sharp eye for fashion trends and a deep understanding of the women's apparel customer.
Proficiency with retail math, inventory management systems, and merchandise planning tools.
Bachelor's degree in business, merchandising, fashion, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth ecommerce environment.
