Merchandising Sales Representative - Retail

Under the direction of the Regional Sales Manager or Senior Territory Manager, the Merchandising Sales Representative - Retail is responsible for servicing OrePac's retail book of business within the assigned territory and creating demand for OrePac's products in the Retail Dealer Channel. This position is also responsible for maintaining the stock level, merchandising, cleanliness and overall appearance of OrePac's specified product lines in retail stores. This position requires commuting to stores within a defined territory on a daily basis, computer knowledge, and maintaining relationships with key associates and leaders within retail stores and OrePac's staff. Timeliness of task completion, project initiatives, and store level execution are key to success.

Sales Support & Business Development: Responsible for identifying and supporting customer sales needs and product opportunities. Learn and understand customer quoting and order management systems. Provide literature, marketing supplies, samples, and product information. Represent OrePac during various customer events, promoting OrePac's full line of products and value proposition. Drive and communicate outbound customer promotions. Work closely with internal Retail Territory Sales Representatives and Inside Sales Representatives to identify priority selling and merchandising activities, communicate route schedules and task completion.

Territory & Customer Relationship Management: Create an environment of open communication and connection between customers and the local OrePac branch. Perform duties in a professional manner and behave in a way that represents the values of both customers and OrePac. Execute Corporate and localized team goals and initiatives. Take ownership of assigned stores and build relationships with store management and store associates within the assigned territory.

Merchandising & Store Execution: Responsible for assembly, maintenance, disassembly, refresh, and placement of displays within assigned accounts. Replace merchandise and verify correct product positioning to support an easy shopping experience for customers. Ensure compliance and visual appearance of programs. Maintain aisle integrity by adhering to provided specifications. Responsible for cleaning and organizing aisles, cull carts, signage, and productions. Work closely with third-party service providers (MET, Signature Retail Services, and CrossMark).

Inventory & Product Quality Management: Order on-hand levels against weeks-of-supply targets. Confirm the quality of products and packaging. May occasionally be required to diagnose and address potential and minor defects in the field and report back to operations with prompt and suggested solutions and/or schedule additional service or a full product replacement.

Safety & Compliance: Comply with the safety standards of both customers and OrePac. Perform store safety audits. Document and communicate safety concerns and injuries that take place during store service immediately or as soon as practicable.

Reporting, Technology, & Continuous Improvement: Follow company-prescribed methods of tracking daily activities for later reporting accountability purposes. Perform project-related tasks as instructed and track progress in the mobile application. Responsible for completing Complete all special projects by specified deadlines. Identify program improvement projects to work on at stores. Identify store-level program improvement opportunities. Learn the complete functionality of mobile phone store service applications. Learn and utilize the full functionality of mobile store service applications. Identify and communicate opportunities for company improvements and efficiency to Operations teams.

Required Skills: Ability to travel (expected to be in the field 75% of the time) throughout the sales territory. Basic knowledge of building materials and construction industry. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage time and re-prioritize as needed. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Excellent organization skills. Must be reliable and dependable, with excellent attendance and punctuality. Strong reading and interpretation skills. Solid math skills, including the ability to perform basic algebra. Close attention to detail and high level of accuracy. Ability to problem-solve minor to intermediate issues quickly and effectively, and reach out to leadership team for support in solving complex issues in a timely manner. Must be currently licensed to drive a car and must be able to comply with state auto insurance requirements and have a proven safe driving record.

Required Education & Experience: High School Diploma or GED 1 to 3 years of relevant sales and industry experience. Any combination of education, training, or experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position will be accepted in place of the education and/or experience requirements listed for this role.

Physical Demands: Regularly required to stand, walk, and sit. Regularly required to see, talk, and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, the ability to adjust focus, and peripheral vision. Ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. Regularly required to lift/move/manipulate up to 50 pounds and occasionally team lift/move/manipulate up to 100 pounds. Regularly lift/move/manipulate materials measuring up to 16 feet long. Occasionally required to bend, reach, and climb tall ladders and stairs.

Work Environment: This position operates in a professional office environment and retail warehouse environment. This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers, and smartphones. The work environment is generally quiet but can be loud in the retail warehouse environment. The employee primarily works in the field servicing retail stores in an assigned geographical area. This position requires travel throughout the assigned territory at least 75% of the time.
