POSITION SUMMARY:
The Merchant Services Sales Officer develops and manages merchant relationships by promoting the bank's payment-processing solutions. This role oversees the full sales cycle, partners with merchants and internal teams, supports implementation and ongoing service, and helps acquire new business, retain clients, and grow the bank's customer relationships.
POSITION TYPE & SCHEDULE:
Full-time, Exempt. 40 hours per week, typically Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:30pm. This schedule is subject to change based on the business needs of the Bank.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develop new merchant relationships through prospecting, telephone consultations, in-person sales calls, networking, and community outreach.
- Manage the full sales cycle for merchant services, from identifying prospects and assessing needs to implementation and ongoing support.
- Conduct outside sales calls and follow up on referrals from branches and internal bank departments.
- Evaluate merchant payment-processing needs and recommend appropriate bankcards, point-of-sale, and merchant services solutions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with merchants, business owners, branch staff, third-party processors, and other business partners.
- Promote merchant services and other bank products to attract new customers, retain existing relationships, and grow business.
- Identify cross-selling and referral opportunities and connect customers with the appropriate bank departments.
- Assist prospective merchants and branch personnel with account-opening requirements, applications, documentation, and implementation.
- Provide training and support to merchants and bank staff regarding merchant services, equipment, procedures, and available resources.
- Coordinate with branches, CCC, processors, and vendors to resolve equipment, account, and service-related issues.
- Monitor sales activity and performance against established goals, benchmarks, and business-development objectives.
- Ensure compliance with Visa and Mastercard requirements, applicable regulations, bank policies, and procedures while supporting special projects and other assigned duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of electronic processing of all major credit cards, debit cards, EBT, ATM, and payroll services.
- General knowledge of Merchant Services & ATM / Debit Card industry.
- Knowledge of credit card merchant terminal operation.
- Knowledge and understanding of bank products and services.
- Skills operating a personal computer including word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software.
- Ability to provide personal transportation is required.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Must maintain valid California driver's licenses
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, bend, stoop, sit, walk, twist and turn.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to use a computer keyboard and calculator.
- Work environment is indoors; majority of the time is spent sitting at a desk. May require travel to customer sites.
Education and Experience:
A combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate's degree in business administration or related field; and knowledge typically gained through a minimum of three years' experience in a bank sales role with knowledge of merchant services products.
Compensation & Benefits
- The hiring range for this position is $57,918 to $77,465 per year. The compensation offered will fall within this range commensurate with the candidate's applicable experience, education and skills.
