    Position Details:

    Mercy Rogers New-Graduate Nurse Residency

    Mercy Northwest Arkansas offers a transition-to-practice nurse residency programdesigned to support you, a newly licensed nurse, as you transition from student to a confident and independent nursing professional. This structured, evidence-based program offers comprehensive and individualized department orientation, hands-on clinical training and ongoing mentorship to ensure a smooth and successful entry into your professional career. The program provides collaboration with experienced preceptors, targeted educational sessions, and a supportive environment that fosters critical thinking, clinical judgment, and professional growth.

    Eligibility:

    • Required Experience: 12 months or less of nursing experience

    • Required Education: Nursing Degree from an accredited school

    • License: Is personally responsible for obtaining, and maintaining, a current nursing license within the hiring state and/or compact licensure in which nursing duties are performed and must meet all state board of nursing requirements.

    • Certifications – Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association

    Key Details

    Program Start Date: The residency program is set to begin February 15, 2027. Orientation will be during the first 2 weeks and will be Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm.

    Duration: The program lasts one year, providing extensive support and training to help new nurses navigate their first year in practice and prepare them for a lasting and fulfilling professional career.  

    Opportunities: We provide new graduate placement within the following departments:

    Emergency Department (ED) 

    Fast-paced, dynamic, and never the same twice, our 24-bed Emergency Department provides care to a highly diverse patient population in a Level III Trauma Center. Nurses care for patients experiencing trauma, cardiac emergencies, neurosurgical conditions, renal complications, and a wide range of acute medical concerns. As a critical access point for the community, the ED delivers rapid assessment, stabilization, and life-saving interventions while collaborating across specialties to ensure the highest level of care.

    Career Path: Ideal for nurses interested in Critical Care, Trauma, Flight Nursing, or Emergency Nursing.
    Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 4:1

     

    Cardiac

    Join a challenging and rewarding 36-bed cardiac specialty unit where nurses care for patients with complex cardiovascular conditions. Common patient populations include those with heart failure, STEMI/NSTEMI, cardiac dysrhythmias, post-cardiac catheterization recovery, vascular and thoracic surgery patients, and individuals experiencing sepsis or infectious disease processes. This unit offers exceptional opportunities to enhance assessment, monitoring, and critical thinking skills.

    Career Path: Excellent preparation for Critical Care, Cardiac Catheterization Lab, and Cardiovascular Nursing specialties.
    Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 6:1

     

    Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

    Our ICU provides advanced, high-acuity care for critically ill patients requiring intensive monitoring and complex interventions. Nurses care for patients with hemodynamic instability, acute cardiac events, respiratory failure, severe infections, substance withdrawal, and those requiring therapies such as BiPAP, CPAP, and other critical care treatments. This highly collaborative environment allows nurses to work closely with multidisciplinary teams while developing expert critical care skills.

    Career Path: Perfect for nurses passionate about Critical Care and advanced clinical practice.
    Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1-2:1

     

    Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

    The Progressive Care Unit bridges the gap between intensive care and medical-surgical nursing. Patients often require close monitoring for conditions such as dysrhythmias, myocardial infarction, blood pressure emergencies, respiratory support with BiPAP/CPAP, and substance withdrawal management. Nurses gain valuable experience caring for patients with complex medical needs while building strong assessment and critical thinking skills.

    Career Path: A great stepping stone for nurses interested in Critical Care or other advanced specialty nursing roles.
    Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 4:1

     

    Med/Tele

    Our 22-bed Medical/Telemetry unit offers a diverse and engaging patient population. Nurses care for post-operative patients with chest tubes and surgical drains, individuals receiving peritoneal dialysis, and cardiac patients requiring telemetry monitoring and specialized treatments. This unit provides a strong balance of medical, surgical, and cardiac experience.

    Career Path: Excellent preparation for Cardiac, Neuro Critical Care, PACU, and Procedural Nursing specialties.
    Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 6:1

     

    Cardiac/Neuro

    The 24-bed Cardiac/Neuro unit specializes in caring for patients with both neurological and cardiovascular conditions. Nurses frequently treat patients experiencing stroke, seizures, altered mental status, and cardiac arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation. This unique specialty combination offers opportunities to build expertise in two highly sought-after nursing disciplines.

    Career Path: Great for nurses interested in Emergency Nursing, Cath Lab, Critical Care, or Interventional Radiology.
    Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 6:1

     

    Med/Surg

    As one of our largest units, this 48-bed Medical/Surgical floor provides comprehensive care to patients with a wide variety of acute and chronic conditions. Nurses care for patients with pneumonia, oncology diagnoses, post-operative surgical needs, and chronic disease management. The wide range of experiences makes this unit an outstanding place to develop a strong clinical foundation.

    Career Path: Ideal for nurses seeking broad experience and skills that can launch a successful career in virtually any nursing specialty.
    Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 6:1

     

    Ortho/Surgical

    Our 22-bed Orthopedic/Surgical unit specializes in caring for patients recovering from joint replacements, spinal surgeries, and other specialty surgical procedures. Nurses work closely with patients on mobility, recovery, pain management, and discharge planning while helping them regain independence and quality of life.

    Career Path: A great fit for nurses interested in Surgery, Orthopedics, Sports Medicine, or Rehabilitation Nursing.
    Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 6:1

     

    Mother/Baby

    Mother/Baby nurses provide specialized, family-centered care to mothers and newborns during one of life's most meaningful moments. Nurses support postpartum recovery, newborn care, breastfeeding education, and family bonding while helping parents confidently transition home with their new baby.

    Career Path: Excellent for nurses passionate about Women's and Children's Services.

    Labor & Birth

    Mercy's Labor & Birth unit delivers exceptional care to mothers and newborns across the full continuum of obstetrical services, from low-risk deliveries to high-risk pregnancies. Nurses work alongside 24/7 in-house OB hospitalists, anesthesia providers, and Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists in a collaborative, faith-based environment known for clinical excellence, strong teamwork, and outstanding patient outcomes.

    Career Path: Ideal for nurses pursuing a career in Women's and Children's Services.
    Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:1 to 3:11

     

    Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

    Our Level III NICU provides advanced, life-saving care for premature and critically ill newborns in a family-centered environment. Located adjacent to the Mother/Baby Unit, this multidisciplinary team cares for infants as early as 26 weeks gestation and utilizes therapies including therapeutic hypothermia, high-frequency ventilation, and inhaled nitric oxide (iNO). Nurses develop specialized neonatal expertise while making a lasting impact on patients and families during their most vulnerable moments.

    Career Path: Perfect for nurses dedicated to Women's and Children's Services and neonatal specialty care.

    About Company

    Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 185 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who wanted to help the poor women and children of Dublin. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill her dreams. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to poor women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help. A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, the first religious order not bound to the rules of the cloister, whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes. By the time Catherine died in 1841, there were convents in Ireland and England, and in 1843, the Sisters of Mercy came to the United States. In 1871, they traveled to St. Louis and from there throughout the Midwest, beginning what would, today be known as Mercy.
