Metal Inspector — Urgently hiring in!

Job Title: Metal Inspector
Pay: $21 per hour
Hours: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 5:30 pm

Looking for a hands-on role in a growing industry? Join a reputable scrap metal recycling company in Auburn, Maine, as a Metal Inspector. This position offers the opportunity to work outdoors in a dynamic environment, gain valuable experience, and contribute to the efficient processing of materials. No prior experience is necessary — just a keen eye for detail and a commitment to safety.

As a Metal Inspector, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and safety of incoming materials while supporting daily operations at our busy yard. You’ll work closely with supervisors and team members to inspect, grade, and direct materials, helping to maintain high standards across all operations.

What You'll Do

As a Metal Inspector, you will be responsible for:
  • Inspect incoming scrap metal shipments transported by truck, rail, or ship to verify compliance with quality and safety standards.
  • Assess and record inspection data, including weight, grade, content, and quantity of scrap metal.
  • Ensure that all materials are free from environmental hazards and meet company acceptance policies.
  • Coordinate unloading activities to promote safe and efficient traffic flow within the yard.
  • Identify and report any equipment issues or unsafe conditions to supervisors promptly.
  • Assist with the handling and transfer of materials, supporting overall yard operations.
  • Collaborate with the team on quality control to ensure customer specifications are met consistently.
  • Adhere strictly to health, safety, and environmental standards to maintain a safe work environment.

What You'll Bring

The ideal candidate will have:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Good physical condition and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • The ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions safely and effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • An understanding of safety procedures and a proactive attitude towards maintaining a safe workplace.
  • Certifications such as OSHA or safety training are a plus but not required.

Location & Schedule:
