Metallurgical Laboratory Technician

Contract - 1st Shift, 5/40

Pay Rate: $38.18/Hr.

  • AA/AS degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience, or a university degree in a related field, or 4 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • 2+ years of experience preparing metallurgical specimens (sectioning, mounting, polishing, etching) or operating related laboratory equipment.
  • 2+ years of experience in metallurgical/material testing, laboratory operations, or quality/inspection work in a metals environment.
  • Ability to operate precision instruments and measurement tools.
  • Strong manual dexterity.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and stand for extended periods.

Position Summary Metallurgical Laboratory Technician

  • Support the clients Additive Design and Manufacturing (ADaM) team in a hands-on metallurgical laboratory role.
  • Perform metallurgical and material verification testing to ensure compliance with specifications, customer standards, and controlled procedures.
  • Conduct specimen preparation, metallurgical evaluations, equipment maintenance, and digital data entry within MES and QMS systems.
  • Support production readiness, quality compliance, and SPQDC (Safety, People, Quality, Delivery, Cost) performance.

Responsibilities Metallurgical Laboratory Technician

  • Conduct metallurgical and material verification testing in accordance with established specifications and procedures.
  • Perform sample preparation, calibration, and elemental analysis using atomic spectroscopy and gas combustion methodologies.
  • Section, mount, polish, and etch specimens for microstructural evaluation.
  • Evaluate microstructure, hardness, density, tensile, fatigue, and other material properties.
  • Execute special process validations and document results within MES.
  • Record, organize, and maintain accurate, traceable test data.
  • Maintain calibration readiness and proper operation of metallurgical testing and measurement equipment.
  • Track and maintain consumable and chemical inventories.
  • Coordinate testing requirements, data reviews, and investigations with Materials Scientists and Quality Engineers.
  • Identify, document, and communicate nonconforming or out-of-specification conditions.
  • Support PPAP, MSA, and FAI metallurgical testing requirements.
  • Participate in 5S, safety, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Support material investigations and failure analysis activities.
  • Coordinate sampling and material flow activities with Operations.
  • Ensure compliance with QMS requirements and applicable industry regulations, including AS9100.
  • Attend occasional Zoom meetings outside normal first-shift hours to support global collaboration.

Preferred Qualification Metallurgical Laboratory Technician

  • Experience with atomic spectroscopy and gas combustion analysis.
  • Strong chemistry background, particularly related to ICP analysis.
  • Experience with additive manufacturing or metal powder-based production environments.
  • Familiarity with microstructural evaluation methods, hardness testing, density analysis, and special process validations.
  • Experience capturing and documenting digital test data within MES/QMS systems.
  • Knowledge of metal powder handling, sampling, or testing.
  • Ability to understand and write laboratory procedures, standard work instructions, or test method documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Interest in continuous improvement of laboratory workflows.
