Overview:

We have a career opportunity for a Meter Severance Technician to join our team!

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for making in person visits to the premises of customers who are delinquent on their gas/water/wastewater accounts or are suspected of unauthorized consumption of utility services.  To minimize customer dissatisfaction and IURC complaints, the incumbent must exercise customer service skills.  Incumbent is responsible for making contact with and determining if customers have  paid on their delinquent accounts.  They evaluate the conditions of each disconnect order to determine if additional intervention/assistance is needed.  Incumbents  leave appropriate notification, and/or disconnect utility services for nonpayment.  Revenue Assurance Field Technicians will work theft related orders and will also assist the Utility Service Theft Investigator as needed for safety.  The incumbent, in this high risk job, must work safely and always be aware of their surroundings while conducting their daily duties. Incumbent must use good judgment around animals and customer’s pets. Incumbent is responsible for operating a variety of company tools and reading gas/water meters accurately in all weather conditions. Incumbent must operate a utility vehicle safely and in accordance with local laws.  Other Duties as assigned.

Minimum Hourly Wage: $43,600 (Grade 4)

Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Organize daily activities and route daily work to optimize time efficiently. 
  • Review customer’s account and  make critical decisions to extend or discontinue service, considering all unique premises and human aspects while balancing the need to protect company revenue. Be responsible for communicating with internal and external customers effectively. Work and drive safely while performing assigned tasks. Read water and gas meters accurately.  
  • Relock or remove meters for services where unauthorized reconnection of service has taken place. Investigate for additional theft on other services at these premises. 
  • Directs and trains other personnel as needed.
  • Continuous learning and development/attending and participating in meetings and training events 
  • Report irregularities and abnormal conditions found while in the field. 
Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must have a valid Indiana Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record 
  • Must pass the Operator Qualification Conditions test for the Gas Division.  
  • Must pass the Meter Pro test for meter reading at a minimum of 95%.  
  • Must be able to independently organize and manage daily workload. 
  • Must pass and participate in the random Drug & Alcohol program in accordance with Pipeline Hazardous Material Safety Administrative (PHMSA) Regulations 49 CFR Part 199 (PHMSA drug and alcohol testing regulation) and 49 CFR Part 40 (DOT drug and alcohol testing regulations).
  • Must have a safe driving record including no history of serious traffic violations, accidents, suspensions/revocations, or DUI/DWI convictions within the last three years

 

 

Preferred Skills/Qualifications                      

Preferably, two years or more experience in Distribution or Gas/Water Operations, preferably two years experience in customer contact positions.  Must possess an attention to detail and a desire to perform work related to account analysis and all aspects of order/transactions processing with the use of technology deployed in the field. Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
