JOB SUMMARY The responsibilities of this position include performing technical duties in the installation, repair, maintenance and operation of the City of Sheridan and SAWS water meters and infrastructure associated with reading meters. MAJOR DUTIES Installs, maintains and repairs water meters and node readers in residential and commercial applications. Responds to work orders created by the customer service department. Performs meter tests for accuracy Performs leak detection for customers with high usage concerns. Turns water service on and off for emergency and non -emergency situations Hangs door hangers for delinquent customers. Performs non -payment turnoff/ turn on for delinquent customers . Locates curb stops and meter pits for customers Performs maintenance and installation of hydrant meters for contractors. Maintains shop inventory of meters, parts and supplies. Assists in the maintenance and repair of the collection and distribution system when necessary. Attends required training Responds to and resolves customer questions and complaints Reads and interprets maps and permits on the Webviewer. KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION Knowledge of the materials, equipment, procedures, and practices employed in water meter installation, maintenance, and repair. Knowledge of department and city policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Knowledge of the locations of city streets and county roads and meters . Knowledge of meter reading procedures. Knowledge of back flow devices and principles of operation. Knowledge of department software (Cartegaph, Sentryx, Mueller routing tool) Skill in basic mathematics. Skill in the installation, repair, programming and maintenance of water meters and radio read units. Skill in reading water meters with handheld and computer software. Skill in interaction with members of the community Skill in oral and written communication. SUPERVISORY CONTROLS The Utility Maintenance Supervisor oversees work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot -checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results. GUIDELINES Guidelines include city specifications, building codes, and the City of Sheridan Safety Manual. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application. COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK The work consists of related technical duties. The necessity of working in confined spaces contributes to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to read, install, maintain, and repair water meters/radio read units. Successful performance helps ensure the accurate recording of customer water usage. Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT The work is typically performed while standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee frequently lifts heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and u tilizes the sense of smell. The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, infectious diseases or irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc. SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY None. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or equivalent (GED) Knowledge of plumbing principles, basic mechanics and the use of hand tools. Possession of a valid drivers license Basic computer skills The City of Sheridan is an at -will employer.
