    Metrology and Coating Compliance Inspector — West Chicago, IL

    Imagine a jet engine component landing on your bench. Its performance in the air will depend on the nanometers you verify today. At Ionbond’s West Chicago Coating Center, you’ll ensure that our advanced PVD, PACVD, and CVD coatings meet exact specifications for aerospace, medical, food contact, automotive, decorative, tooling, and fuel cell applications. You’ll report directly to the QHSE Manager and help us uphold a reputation built across 34 job coating centers in 15 countries as part of IHI Group.

    Your mission

    Guard the integrity of every coated surface. Confirm quality. Document rigorously. Drive continuous improvement.

    How you’ll make impact

    • Verify coating thickness, adhesion, surface finish, and both substrate and coating hardness; confirm size and overall appearance.
    • Capture and store inspection data in strict alignment with defined methods and procedures.
    • Contribute to audits under supervision: control plan and product audits; 5S and HSE reviews; QMS self-assessments; customer audit forms.
    • Own document/data control and keep daily inspection logs accurate and timely.
    • Maintain a spotless, safe workstation and reliable lab equipment.
    • Communicate findings to production and supervision to keep quality and throughput aligned.
    • Design precise inspection setups; utilize gauges, calipers, and micrometers.
    • Lead 5S initiatives in QC and assist where needed across the site.
    • Take on other assignments that advance quality outcomes.

    Qualifications

    • High School diploma minimum; Associate degree preferred
    • 2+ years of manufacturing QC inspection experience
    • PC proficiency (Microsoft Office); strong organization and time management
    • Pass a color vision test and a math test
    • Able to sit/stand for long periods; read 6-point font; accurately distinguish color differences
    • Wear required PPE; excellent dexterity with precision-machined parts
    • Strong critical thinking and clear communication; effective in a fast-paced environment
    • Read and follow instructions in English

    Legal/Compliance

    Must be authorized to work in the U.S. and pass a criminal background check and physical screening.
