Overview:
MetroSquash was founded in 2005 as an out-of-school time program for Chicago Public School students. The first MetroSquash class consisted of 10 fifth-grade students and utilized squash courts and classroom space at the University of Chicago. A grade level was added each year to realize a service pathway from 5th grade through post-secondary completion. In 2015, the organization raised over $8M to construct a permanent home - the 8-court Hussain MetroSquash Center in Woodlawn. With an operating budget of $3.5M, MetroSquash has 20 full-time staff serving over 500 students and their families annually. In 2018, MetroSquash opened its first satellite location in Evanston to serve students just north of Chicago. MetroSquash Evanston currently serves 70+ 6th-12th graders as well as college students and utilizes court space at the McGaw YMCA. The organization will embark on a $15M capital capital campaign in the fall of 2026.
Description:
The High School Squash Coordinator reports to the Manager of Squash & Fitness and will engage students to reach their full potential on & off court and help build MetroSquash into a national leader in program quality and excellence. The position provides a tremendous opportunity to have a significant impact on the squash and fitness levels and health and wellness of high school students. The High School Squash Coordinator will have high energy, be a great communicator, experienced with serving youth, and eager to advance the MetroSquash mission.
Key Job Responsibilities:
Plan and implement school year squash programming for MetroSquash students from 9th through 12th grade, including bi-annual skills testing and high school ladder.
Build a relationship and rapport with all high school students and their families while promoting the mission and values of MetroSquash.
Help develop the summer squash program and assist with a 5-week summer camp.
Collaborate with academic staff to foster a fully integrated approach to academic, athletic and wellness development for each student including facilitating family meetings.
Work with the Academic Coordinator to help recruit and retain a minimum 20 students per grade level by attending outreach events throughout the year aimed at engaging prospective students.
Assist in the running of MetroSquash hosted tournaments, events, tryouts and clinics.
Assist in the coordination and planning of student participation in junior tournaments, squash events and external summer squash camps.
Track high school squash testing, tournament participation, attendance, and all other relevant program metrics.
Help supervise squash volunteers, Up2Us coaches, and student workers during after-school programming.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Hours:
General hours are Monday through Friday 11am-7pm. While the position entails weekend work for tournament hosting and travel, MetroSquash prioritizes a healthy work/life balance and flexibility of schedule where possible.
Vacation & Benefits:
