    Manages and implements Palomar Health healthcare system medication safety initiatives. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Collect, analyze, and develop quality improvement action plans for the medication error and adverse drug reaction reporting programs. Provides general direction, supervises and completes annual evaluations of the medication intake coordinator position. Coordinates and reports the pharmacy department's quality assurance activities and improvement plans. Actively participates on the Patient Safety Committee and assembles the agendas for the Medication Safety Committee. Regularly reports quality and safety issues to the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and Quality Management Committee; and occasionally to the Board Quality Review Committee or Medical Executive Committees. Oversee the Palomar Health Medication Error Reduction Plan. Participate on Root Cause Analysis and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) teams when appropriate. Writes and publishes articles for Palomar Health publications, such as the pharmacy and nursing newsletters. Collaborate with Risk Management to develop safety reports to appropriate governing bodies. Spear-head regulatory standards compliance efforts for the Medication Use Process. Serve as a resource on medication safety and education. Develops safe medication policy and reviews medication-related procedures from other departments as appropriate. Specifically exempted from any responsibility involving California Pharmacy laws unless there is clear overlap with Joint Commission, California Department of Public Health, or the Code of Federal Regulations. Speak and read English at a level that is sufficient to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position. Knowledge of standard office equipment (i.e., calculator, fax, photocopier) and personal computer and computer software skills (i.e., MS Windows, Excel, Access, Word, Powerpoint, internet, e-mail). Windows computer skills including proficient use of keyboarding, use of mouse or keys for functions such as selecting items, use of drop down menus, scroll bars, opening folders, copying and similar operations required upon employment or within the 1st two weeks of employment to perform the essential functions of the job. Performs other duties as assigned. Follows Palomar Health rules, policies, procedures, applicable laws and standards. Carries out the mission, vision, and quality commitment of Palomar Health.

    Job Requirements

    Minimum Education: As required by certification and/or licensure

    Preferred Education: Doctorate in Pharmacy (Pharm D)

    MinimumExperience:  3 years

    Preferred Experience:  5 years

    Preferred Certification: Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist

    Required License:  Valid Driver's LicenseCurrent CA Registered Pharmacist (RPh)
