Make a Difference by Guiding People Through Critical Healthcare Decisions

If you are passionate about helping others navigate complex systems and want to create meaningful impact in your community, this role offers a unique opportunity. As a Medicare Information Assistance & Awareness (MIAA) Coordinator, you will empower individuals with the knowledge and support they need to make informed healthcare decisions while strengthening vital community programs.

This position will be part-time: 25 hours a week.

Key Responsibilities

Program Delivery and Client Support

  • Provide comprehensive Medicare counseling and education to help individuals understand their coverage options and enrollment decisions
  • Conduct client assessments and ensure services meet required quality and compliance standards
  • Coordinate and oversee Open Enrollment periods and outreach events to maximize program reach and participation
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in all client interactions

Operations, Data, and Compliance

  • Ensure accurate and timely data entry and reporting across required systems to meet grant and regulatory requirements
  • Monitor program activity to ensure adherence to state, federal, and funding guidelines
  • Prepare reports and track program performance to support accountability and continuous improvement

Volunteer Coordination and Training

  • Recruit, onboard, and support a network of volunteers to deliver counseling and outreach services
  • Provide ongoing coaching, resources, and updates to ensure volunteers remain knowledgeable and effective
  • Foster a positive and engaged volunteer experience to sustain program quality

Community Engagement and Partnerships

  • Build and maintain relationships with community organizations serving older adults and individuals with disabilities
  • Coordinate outreach efforts and educational sessions to increase awareness of available services
  • Stay current on Medicare updates and share relevant information with staff, volunteers, and community partners

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Required

  • Experience providing health insurance education, benefits counseling, or similar client-facing services
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications, including SHIP Counselor Certification
  • Experience using databases and reporting systems for accurate data management and compliance

Preferred

  • Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, or other public benefit programs
  • Experience coordinating volunteers or working in a community-based or nonprofit environment

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform regular computer-based work and maintain accurate documentation
  • Ability to travel locally for outreach events, meetings, and trainings
  • Ability to sit, stand, and move throughout office and community settings
  • Ability to lift and carry materials up to 25 pounds when necessary
