Your role at Clorox:

The Clorox Company has an opportunity in the Advanced Measurement Sciences (AMS) Microbiology group within our Research and Development Center in Pleasanton, California for an Associate Scientist II position.
You will be part of a team growing numerous brands across the Clorox portfolio. Daily responsibilities include using sterile techniques to grow and test a variety of BS2 microbes, method development, data analysis, and providing microbiological expertise. You will have experience in EPA and FDA regulated OTC products. You will work closely with Scientists and the Business Units to vet systems, troubleshoot issues, and recommend next steps based on experimentation and knowledge. You will also take on non-project specific initiatives within the department to grow the Microbiological knowledge base and functionality of Clorox as a whole.

This position is for an experienced microbiologist with knowledge across a variety of microbes (Bacteria, yeast, mold) and strong problem solving and communication skills. The successful candidate will also have experience testing products for microbial activity across consumer goods including cleaning, professional cleaning/sanitization, food, and personal care products.

In this role, you will:

  • Working at the bench developing and applying microbial methods to screen a variety of Clorox products for effectiveness and robustness against spoilage.   

  • Data analysis, interpretation, discussion and communication of results and recommendations, as well as prompt recording of findings in lab notebooks and/or on approved sites. 

  • Effective partnering with the BUs and communication of technical proposals, data, and progress reports to project team members and management.  

  • Participating in general lab management such as maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly work environment, ordering supplies, and keeping instrument maintenance  

  • The ability to become adept at the use of new tools, multi-task, and work according to tight timelines, and be able to get information under ambiguity.  

  • Demonstrating drive, initiative, creativity, and providing quality results.  

What we look for:

1 to 3 years experience working in a microbiology lab.   Experience with consumer goods, food or cosmetics products.    

/Recommended:  

The ability to develop, run, optimize and design various microbiological methodologies for product effectiveness and robustness screening  

Experience reading SOPs and independently determining how to complete the work described 

Troubleshooting microbial assays (identifying anomalies and developing mitigating actions) 

Working experience with sterile technique, microbial propagation, serial dilutions, enumerating colonies, media preparation, and plating (pour, streaking) 

Experience using equipment such as autoclaves, spectrophotometers, centrifuges, microscopes, and air chambers  

Responsibility for instrument maintenance, supplies, repairs, and purchases. 

Strong aptitude to learn and master new tools and skills. 

Experience working collaboratively with multi-functional teams in a fast-paced environment, and in providing guidance/training to others on routine assignments. 

Ability to multi-task and manage efforts on multiple projects according to assigned priorities. 

Excellent adherence to lab and chemical safety requirements, company documentation policies, and strong demonstrated work ethics. 

Ability and aptitude to train others across a variety of microbial techniques

This position will be located in our Pleasanton, CA office, and the individual will be expected to be in the office 3 days a week.

–Zone A: $27.64 - $48.08

–Zone B: $25.34 - $44.09

–Zone C: $23.03 - $40.05
