Bus Driver Job Description
Key duties include conducting pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, obeying all traffic laws, assisting passengers (including those with disabilities), and maintaining the cleanliness of the bus.
Responsibilities
- Transportation: Safely pick up and drop off passengers at designated locations and times.
- Safety: Enforce safety rules for passengers, assist those needing help to get on and off, and perform pre- and post-trip vehicle safety inspections.
- Scheduling: Follow assigned routes and adhere to strict time schedules.
- Communication: Communicate with dispatchers via radio regarding delays, accidents, or other issues.
- Maintenance: Perform basic vehicle checks (e.g., fluid levels, tires, lights) and report any mechanical problems to the service manager.
- Cleanliness: Keep the bus clean and sanitary at all times.
Qualifications
- A valid driver's license and a commercial driver's permit (CDL) are required to complete ELDT training.
- School Bus and Passenger endorsements
- May require specific certifications, such as an air brake certification.
- Must have a clean driving record.
- Must have good vision, with or without corrective lenses.
- Must be willing to submit to drug and alcohol screening.
- Good interpersonal skills.
