Summary:

The Mid-Level Front End Developer leads front-end development efforts for the Military-Civilian Transition Office's (MCTO) suite of online platforms. This position requires a high degree of independent technical judgment, demonstrated experience delivering production-quality web applications in mission-critical environments, and the ability to mentor junior developers. Experience with federal or DoW digital services environments and a commitment to web accessibility standards are essential to this role.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Lead front-end development and delivery for MCTO platforms
  • Conduct and lead front-end UI/UX reviews, documenting current-state assessments and recommending improvements aligned with emergent technologies and user-behavioral trends
  • Ensure all front-end deliverables are 100% compatible with current mobile and tablet devices and meet applicable DoW accessibility standards
  • Establish and enforce front-end coding standards, peer review processes, and test coverage requirements across the development team
  • Mentor junior front-end developers, provide technical guidance, and support onboarding of new team members
  • Collaborate with designers (Figma or comparable tools), back-end engineers, and Government stakeholders to ensure cohesive and compliant user experiences
  • Implement and maintain WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards across all developed interfaces
  • Contribute to change management iteration cycles (bi-weekly sprints) and support monthly status reports
  • Adhere to DoW ASD STIG requirements, OWASP secure coding standards, and DHRA/DMDC coding standards
  • Support production monitoring, identify performance issues, and implement remediation plans in coordination with the ISSO and cybersecurity team

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Expert proficiency in JavaScript and at least two modern front-end frameworks, including React and Vue.js (or comparable frameworks)
  • environments (Git/GitHub), including code review practices
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor junior developers through pair programming, code review guidance, and technical coaching
  • Proficiency with version control in collaborative, multi-developer team

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Technology, or a closely related field preferred
  • Equivalent demonstrated professional experience in lieu of formal degree may be considered commensurate with the depth of technical expertise and years of progressive front-end development experience
  • 3-6 years of progressive, professional front-end software development experience, with demonstrated delivery of production applications
  • Demonstrated experience in a federal government or DoW-adjacent digital services environment, including familiarity with compliance, security, and regulatory constraints inherent to those environments
  • Proven track record of delivering accessible web applications in compliance with WCAG standards
  • Experience with comprehensive front-end testing strategies, including unit testing (Jest, React Testing Library), integration testing, and end-to-end testing (Cypress or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated experience building and documenting reusable component libraries for cross-team use
  • Must obtain and maintain a Tier 3 (T3) background investigation in accordance with DoWI 5200.02
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible for a DoW Common Access Card (CAC)
  • Must complete all mandatory training within 30 calendar days of reporting for duty, including CUI, OPSEC, Privacy Act/PII, IT Security Awareness, and Insider Threat Awareness training

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with full-stack or back-end development (e.g., Ruby on Rails, Node.js, or equivalent) sufficient to support cross-functional collaboration
  • Hands-on experience with cloud service troubleshooting, particularly AWS or Azure
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience integrating monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Datadog) into production environments
  • Experience leading working groups or cross-functional teams in Agile/Scrum delivery environments
  • Experience implementing AI-assisted coding tools within an approved and governed workflow
  • Familiarity with 508 compliance requirements for federal digital services

Pay and Benefits

The annual salary for this position is $110,000.
