We are seeking a Network / Telecom Systems Engineer with strong experience in networking fundamentals, microwave radio communications, telecom/ISP connectivity, and Linux system administration. The ideal candidate will be responsible for supporting, troubleshooting, and maintaining network and communications infrastructure in a mission-critical environment.
Experience supporting railroad or train operations systems, such as Positive Train Control (PTC) or Centralized Traffic Control (CTC), is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor, maintain, troubleshoot, and support network and telecommunications infrastructure.
Configure and troubleshoot routers, switches, and core network protocols.
Support microwave radio communication systems and related telecommunications infrastructure.
Coordinate with telecom vendors and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) for connectivity, circuit provisioning, outages, and technical issues.
Perform Linux system administration, including system monitoring, configuration, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance.
Diagnose and resolve network, communication, and system-related incidents.
Participate in incident management, including investigation, root-cause analysis, escalation, and resolution.
Monitor network performance and identify potential connectivity or infrastructure issues.
Work with internal technology teams, vendors, and other stakeholders to resolve complex technical problems.
Maintain technical documentation, network diagrams, troubleshooting procedures, and incident records.
Support network and communications infrastructure in a high-availability, mission-critical environment.
Participate in maintenance activities, upgrades, testing, and implementation of network and telecommunications solutions.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including:
Routers and switches
TCP/IP
DNS, DHCP
VLANs
Routing and switching concepts
Basic network troubleshooting
Experience with microwave radio communications.
Experience working with telecom vendors and ISP connectivity.
Familiarity with Linux operating systems and distributions.
Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
Experience with incident management and problem resolution.
Ability to diagnose connectivity, network, and system issues using appropriate tools and methodologies.
Strong communication and documentation skills.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with technical teams and vendors.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in railroad, transportation, or other mission-critical operational environments.
Experience supporting Positive Train Control (PTC) systems.
Experience with Centralized Traffic Control (CTC) or similar train operations systems.
Experience supporting communications infrastructure used for train control, signaling, or transportation operations.
Experience working in environments requiring high availability and 24x7 operational support.
