Position Overview Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. (AMT) is an ENR 500 A/E firm that provides civil engineering services in areas such as traffic and transportation design, water and wastewater systems, environmental and water resources, and landscape architecture.We are looking for a Transportation Engineer with at least 5 years of relevant experience to join our Richmond, VA office. The role supports multiple projects, including data collection, existing condition and alternative analysis for engineering reports, design of horizontal and vertical alignments, cross‑section and superelevation design, roadside barrier, ADA curb ramp, roadway modeling, erosion & sediment control plans, stormwater management plans, right‑of‑way plans, utility relocation plans, permit application drawings, and traffic related plans.Responsibilities Collect data and perform existing condition and alternative analysis for engineering reports.Develop horizontal and vertical alignments and conduct cross‑section and superelevation design.Design roadside barriers, ADA curb ramps, and roadway modeling.Provide design support for erosion and sediment control plans, stormwater management plans, right‑of‑way plans, utility relocation plans, and permit application drawings.Develop traffic related plans and coordinate with project teams.Qualifications BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.Professional Engineer (PE) licensure required or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.Knowledge of civil engineering design and construction surveying concepts.Experience performing design for roadway transportation projects, including cost estimating, specifications, and highway plans for construction bid packages.Experience with State and Federal transportation design standards; Virginia design procedures and standards a plus.Experience with Microstation and InRoads required; latest version of Power Inroads SS4, Connect Edition or Open Roads a plus.Prior work experience with Municipal and State DOTs preferred; prior work with VDOT and/or other Virginia localities a plus.Additional experience with advanced intersection and roadway corridor modeling, AutoCAD and/or Civil3D, GIS applications such as ArcGIS or Google Earth, SignCAD, AutoTurn, and/or ASTA project scheduling is a plus.Proficiency with MS Office products including Word and Excel.Excellent oral and written communication skills.Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with co‑workers, project managers, supervisors, and other team members.Benefits Tiered medical coverageDental and vision coverage401(k) with generous 6% company matchEmployee Stock Ownership PlanShort‑term and long‑term disability coverageCollege savings planLife insurancePaid time off and holidaysContinuing training and certificationsWhy Join AMT?
