Middle School Art Teacher
Position Summary
Frankfort Middle School is seeking a dedicated and creative Middle School Art Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. The Middle School Art Teacher is responsible for creating a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment where students develop creativity, artistic skills, critical thinking, and self-expression through a variety of visual arts experiences. The teacher will design and implement standards-based art instruction that supports students' artistic growth, encourages exploration, and connects art to culture, history, and real-world applications. The ideal candidate will inspire middle school students to take creative risks, develop confidence in their abilities, and appreciate the role of art in communication and problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, standards-based art instruction to students in grades 6-8
- Implement lesson plans aligned with the district's art curriculum and Indiana Academic Standards (or applicable state standards)
- Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
- Encourage creativity, critical thinking, and self-expression through a variety of art media and techniques
- Assess student work and provide meaningful feedback
- Incorporate vocabulary, literacy strategies, and academic language into art instruction.
- Differentiate instruction for students with diverse learning needs, including students receiving special education services and multilingual learners.
- Maintain effective classroom management and clear routines
- Collaborate with grade-level teams, special education staff, and administration as needed
- Communicate professionally with students, staff, and families
- Uphold all school policies, procedures, and expectations
- Collaborate with teachers across content areas to support interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
- Participate in professional learning communities, staff meetings, and school improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to school culture, events, and student activities.
- Support school-wide expectations, procedures, and initiatives.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe art classroom environment.
- Manage art supplies, inventory, and equipment responsibly.
Qualifications
- Valid teaching license or substitute teaching permit (Art preferred)
- Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related field preferred
- Prior experience teaching middle school students preferred
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Ability to adapt instruction to meet diverse student needs
- Passion for working with adolescents and supporting their social-emotional and academic growth
