We are seeking a passionate, student-centered Middle School AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Teacher who is committed to helping students develop the academic skills, confidence, and mindset needed for success in rigorous coursework, high school, college, and future careers. The ideal candidate believes every student can achieve at high levels and is dedicated to creating an engaging, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
What You'll Do
- Teach the AVID elective curriculum for middle school students.
- Foster a college- and career-ready culture through inquiry, organization, collaboration, reading, writing, and critical thinking strategies.
- Support students in developing study skills, note-taking strategies, time management, and goal setting.
- Facilitate engaging tutorials using AVID methodologies.
- Monitor student academic progress and provide coaching to improve achievement.
- Build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Collaborate with teachers and administrators to support schoolwide implementation of AVID instructional strategies.
- Organize college and career exploration activities, guest speakers, and field trips.
- Maintain accurate student records and communicate progress with families.
- Participate in professional learning communities, faculty meetings, and ongoing AVID professional development.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Valid state teaching certification appropriate for middle grades.
- Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with diverse learners.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Commitment to educational equity and student success.
Preferred
- AVID training or certification.
- Previous experience teaching AVID or working with middle school students.
- Experience implementing WICOR instructional strategies (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading).
- Bilingual skills are a plus.
