Schedule: 40 hrs a week - Wednesday evenings required

Job Summary:

The Middle School Discipleship Coordinator will be responsible for facilitating and personally investing in weekly youth programs, which includes collaborating with the Coordinator of Youth Discipleship and Evangelization to develop curriculum, offer volunteer formation and training, and plan events. This role aids in the implementation of catechetical and relational programs within a cohesive framework that is conducive to discipleship and relationship with Jesus Christ. This person will report to the Coordinator of Youth Discipleship and Evangelization.

 

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

This individual will be required to adjust their schedule to meet the needs of the Parish, including work on weekends and evenings. The primary areas of responsibility are:

Plan and implement youth formation programs and activities for middle school students and their families.

Oversee the proximate preparation process for the sacrament of Confirmation including youth formation, family formation, retreats, liturgy planning, etc.

Collaborate with the Confirmation Sacrament Subcommittee to complete the annual planning process for the sacrament of Confirmation.

Prepare curriculum for middle school formation prior to the start of the academic year.

Create content that encourages liturgical living and Catholic Culture within the home.

Communicate with parents and students about all opportunities and publicize them to the parish.

Facilitate middle school summer programming.

Attend regular staff meetings.

Participate in staff planning and formation.

Be a resource person to parish staff on issues related to the Confirmation preparation process.

Be a consistent pastoral presence at Mass and parish-wide events.

Collaborates with other parish youth ministry programs (Knights of the Holy Temple, DOYMAR, Handmaids of the Eucharist, etc.) to offer a comprehensive approach to youth formation.

 

Organizing and training of volunteers

Assist in the recruitment, formation, and training of parent and event volunteers.

Monthly support and training sessions with leaders and volunteers.

Weekly communication with leaders and volunteers

Assist the Coordinator of Youth Discipleship and Evangelization to ensure that all leaders and volunteers are compliant with diocesan VIRTUS requirements and ongoing formation.

 

Administrative Tasks

Participate in diocesan faith formation trainings and meetings.

Participate in ongoing faith formation and educational opportunities.

 

Specific Job Skills

Thorough knowledge of the Catholic faith and the ability to communicate it to others

successfully.

Effective oral and written communication and composition skills.

Effective use of communication tools relevant to youth formation.

Ability to recruit and empower volunteers and collaborate well with them and others in

carrying out the parish’s mission through ministry to youth.

Build authentic relationships with youth, their parents.

Ability to speak effectively in public.

Collaborative skills that serve to motivate volunteers.

Ability to manage change through encouraging communication with key stakeholders and participants.

Able to implement multiple models of religious formation and education simultaneously.

 

Education and Experience Requirements

Practicing Catholic in good standing required.

Bachelor’s degree required - theology, catechesis, or similar academic discipline preferred.

Experience working with teens and youth.
