PRIMARY PURPOSE

Serve as a role model to support learning and innovation throughout the district. Provide instructional support, cross-curricular and technology integration, and mentoring for new teachers and others as needed. Support the implementation of professional development and a seamless, district-wide instructional delivery system.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited university; Master's degree preferred
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
  • Completion of a state-developed 30-hour GT workshop required

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Expertise in interpreting and teaching the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)
  • Expertise in the curricular areas for the grade levels and subject areas assigned
  • Knowledge of the use of student assessments in improving learning
  • Knowledge of data disaggregation and analysis
  • Knowledge of district intervention and academic support systems
  • Knowledge of special programs such as G/T, ESL, Dyslexia, Special Education, etc.
  • Expertise in the use of research-based best teaching practices and high-yield instructional strategies
  • Effective coaching, problem solving, and conferencing skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills and willingness to work collaboratively with staff

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of teaching experience preferred
  • Experience teaching a variety of grade levels and subject areas preferred
  • Recent teaching experience within the district preferred
  • Experience as a teacher-leader or team leader preferred

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Curriculum Management and Facilitation

  • Assist in the facilitation of the review, development, and revision of all subject area programs and related curriculum documents and materials, including curriculum guides, course outlines, and teaching plans.
  • Facilitate vertical and horizontal alignment of curriculum and instruction on each campus and between campuses.
  • Facilitate curriculum-based assessment development and management.
  • Support campus principals in the administration of curriculum-based assessments and the disaggregation and analysis of results to improve instruction.

Instructional Coaching

  • Work cooperatively with directors and campus principals in developing and supervising the instructional programs in the assigned subject area.
  • Collaborate with principals and teacher leaders to improve learning on each campus.
  • Coach teachers in integrating research-based instructional strategies into classroom instruction.
  • Serve as an instructional coach and model effective teaching practices.
  • Model teaching strategies with students in the classroom.
  • Use evaluative findings, including student achievement data, to examine curriculum and instruction program effectiveness and facilitate coaching conversations around data.
  • Observe classroom instruction and provide feedback and assistance to classroom teachers to facilitate improvement and innovation.

Staff Development

  • Plan and provide staff development for teachers, administrators, and staff in the designated subject area.
  • Disseminate information regarding current research and significant developments on the state and national levels in the assigned area.
  • Coordinate professional development with campus administrators.
  • Assist campus administration in the coordination and implementation of campus and individual staff professional development.
  • Assist staff members in planning individual professional development to improve instruction, with emphasis on beginning teachers.
  • Provide professional development at the district, campus, and individual levels.

Communication

  • Promote collegiality, teamwork, and collaborative decision making among staff.
  • Establish and maintain open communication and professional relationships with all staff members.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

Professional Growth and Development

  • Participate in professional development to enhance essential job-related knowledge and skills.
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Compile, maintain, and file physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents.

Other

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student and coworker information as required by FERPA.
