Job Summary
The Middle School Math/Science Teacher is responsible for providing engaging, standards-aligned instruction in mathematics and science to middle school students. This position plans and delivers lessons that support academic growth, critical thinking, problem-solving, and scientific inquiry while creating a positive and structured classroom environment. The teacher monitors student progress, differentiates instruction to meet diverse learning needs, and collaborates with school staff and families to support student success.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties
Plan and deliver engaging mathematics and science instruction aligned with Michigan academic standards.
Develop and implement lesson plans, assessments, and instructional activities appropriate for middle school students.
Use a variety of instructional strategies to support different learning styles and abilities.
Establish and maintain clear classroom expectations, routines, and procedures.
Create a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
Assess student learning and monitor academic progress.
Use student data to adjust instruction and provide appropriate interventions or enrichment.
Provide additional academic support to students as needed.
Incorporate hands-on activities, technology, problem-solving, and inquiry-based learning into instruction.
Maintain accurate attendance, grades, student records, and other required documentation.
Communicate regularly with students, families, and school staff regarding student progress and needs.
Collaborate with colleagues to support curriculum development and student achievement.
Participate in staff meetings, professional development, parent conferences, and other school activities.
Follow school policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
Maintain confidentiality of student and school information.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Ability to occasionally lift or carry classroom materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
Ability to participate in hands-on science activities and demonstrations as needed.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Science, Education, or a related field required.
Valid Michigan Secondary Teaching Certificate with appropriate Mathematics and Science endorsement required.
Previous middle school teaching experience is preferred.
Strong knowledge of mathematics and science curriculum and instructional practices.
Experience with differentiated instruction and data-driven instruction preferred.
Strong classroom management and student engagement skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency with educational technology and digital learning tools.
Ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and school leadership.
