Compensation: At the appropriate step on the Teachers' Salary Schedule

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with BR endorsement
  • Knowledge of adolescent literacy development and instructional best practices
  • Understanding of the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy principles
  • Experience using literacy assessment data to guide instruction and intervention
  • Knowledge of dyslexia characteristics and evidence-based reading interventions (or willingness to learn)
  • Experience with MTSS processes
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all staff, students, and families
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace
  • Willingness to travel between buildings, if required
  • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and consistent attendance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a Reading Specialist, Title I Reading Teacher, or other similar role.
  • Prior experience working with adolescent learners in grades 6-8
  • Have completed, or currently in the process of completing, LETRs training

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted literacy intervention aligned to the Science of Reading
  • Administer and analyze literacy screeners, diagnostics, and progress-monitoring data
  • Support identification and instruction for students with characteristics of dyslexia
  • Assist with implementation of PA 146 (Michigan's Dyslexia Law) requirements
  • Develop trusting professional relationships and collaborate with classroom teachers to strengthen core literacy instruction and support student reading outcomes.
  • Consistently and positively contribute to district leadership teams, such as the district literacy team district MTSS team, etc.
  • Participation in planning and delivering professional learning and alignment of literacy initiatives.
  • Communicate student progress and instructional plans with staff and families
  • Present literacy data, intervention outcomes, and instructional practices to staff, district teams, and/or the Board of Education as requested.
  • Actively contribute to the school and district MTSS process when addressing student literacy outcomes
  • Maintain accurate documentation and student records
  • Perform other duties as assigned

This position is classified as Exempt

Employment is contingent upon disclosure in accordance with PA-189.

Ability to withstand the strains and successfully manage the responsibilities of the position.

Must demonstrate reliability and punctuality, with a strong record of consistent attendance. Regular and dependable presence during school hours is essential.
