Position Title: Middle School Science Teacher
 
Work Location: Austin, Texas
 
Position: 10-month contract for 2026-2027 school year
 
FLSA Status: Exempt, Full time

Staff Supervisor: Head of School
 
Position Summary: Redeemer School serves children from Toddler (15 months as of Sept. 1st) through 8th Grade. Our Teachers are called to prayerfully minister to students and their families with the love of Christ as a resource person for individualized instruction, consulting with parents and church workers, thereby enabling children to receive a Christian education.
 
Supervises: Classroom assistants, Student teachers, volunteers, and students.
 
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements –
  • Spiritually mature Christian active in the worship life of his/her church.
  • Demonstrates instructional excellence and effective classroom management.
  • Evidences a lifestyle that reflects a dynamic relationship with Christ.
  • Holds valid teacher’s certificate and any additional background work requested by administration.
  • Educational Preparation
    • Professionally trained educator, preferably Master’s Degree.
    • Administration, BA in Early Childhood Development, Elementary Education, or specific Middle School certification.
    • Has and will maintain Teaching Certification.
 
The following is preferred –
  • Church Membership and Attendance:
    • 1st: is or will become an active member of Redeemer Austin
    • 2nd: is an active member of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod
    • 3rd: is an active member of a Christian church or denomination
    • LCMS qualification by Lutheran Teacher Diploma or Colloquy: 
    • 1st: has this qualification. 
    • 2nd: is working toward or will complete in a reasonable period of time
      the LCMS teacher colloquy. 
    • Is active in group study of God’s Word. 
 
Position Overview: Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.
  • Structures all learning experiences that teach/lead students into a growing relationship with Christ and assists students to achieve their potential.
  • Set an example of Christian and professional ethics at all times.
  • Abide by the procedures outlined in the staff handbook and Redeemer personnel policies.
  • Cooperate and support the School Board and administration in implementing all policies, procedures, and directives governing the operation of the school.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled devotional, in-service, retreats, open house, parent conferences, committee, faculty, and Parent Teacher Fellowship meetings.
  • Keep students, parents, and the administration adequately informed of progress or deficiencies and give sufficient notice of failure.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality on private and personal matters.
  • Recognize the need for good public relations. Represent the school in a favorable and professional manner to the school's constituency and the general public.
  • Develop and maintain rapport with students, parents, and staff by treating others with friendliness, dignity, and consideration.
  • Seek the counsel of the administrator, colleagues, and parents while maintaining a teachable attitude.
  • Teach classes as assigned following prescribed scope and sequence as scheduled by the supervisor.
  • Keep proper discipline in the classroom and on the school premises for a good learning environment.
  • Maintain a clean, attractive, well-ordered classroom.
  • Plan broadly through the use of semester and quarterly plans and objectives, and more currently through the use of a lesson plan book or RenWeb.
  • Utilize valid teaching techniques to achieve curriculum goals within the framework of the school's philosophy.
  • Plan through approved channels the balanced classroom use of field trips, guest speakers, and other media.
  • Use homework effectively for drill, review, enrichment, or project work.
  • Maintain regular and accurate attendance and grade records to meet the demands for a comprehensive knowledge of each student's progress.
Supplemental Functions
  • Supervise extra-curricular activities, organizations, and outings as assigned.
  • Utilize educational opportunities and evaluation processes for professional growth.
  • Provide input and constructive recommendations for administrative and managerial functions in the school.
  • Support the broader program of the school by attending extra-curricular activities when possible.
  • Perform any other duties, which may be assigned by the administration.
