27J Online Academy is seeking a passionate, student-centered Online Middle School Science Teacher to lead our 6th,7th, and 8th grade science classes. Unlike fully asynchronous programs, our middle school model utilizes a Sync-Supported, live class time structure alongside the use of vendor-built, virtual course curriculum.
The primary focus of this role is to maximize the impact of daily virtual class periods by prioritizing connection, instructional clarity, and data-driven, personalized learning and coaching for every student. The ideal candidate fosters active scientific inquiry, designs high-quality mini-lessons, and builds developmental relationships that keep middle schoolers engaged and moving toward content mastery.
This is a hybrid role that combines both on-campus workdays and remote days.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily Live Instruction: Deliver engaging, targeted whole-group mini-lessons to supplement online courseware, keeping the first half of class focused on core concepts. Plan mini-lessons, curate supplementary science resources, and organize breakout room materials based on anticipated concepts or frequently missed questions.
- Targeted Student Management: Facilitate the second half of live classes by dynamically releasing or retaining students based on real-time progress and student need.
- Course customization: Develop or curate supplemental resources (videos, study guides, practice problems) to enhance learning where courseware content alone is insufficient. Align content to district curricular frameworks and add mastery assessment activities where appropriate.
- Personalized Intervention: Provide targeted instruction and concept clarification during scheduled WIN (What I Need) blocks by organizing teacher-initiated 1:1 conferences or small-group support sessions.
- Progress Monitoring and Communication: Monitor student progress dashboards daily to identify those who are behind pacing, disengaged, or struggling. Proactively utilize a variety of communication tools to partner with students, parents, and colleagues to drive success.
- In-Person Learning: Design in-person enrichment experiences for students and support the drop-in student Learning Center on a rotational basis.
Qualifications
- Valid Colorado Teaching license with an endorsement in secondary Science.
- Proficiency with an LMS and digital tools for virtual instruction.
- Prior experience with Edmentum or similar online courseware providers is helpful.
- Demonstrated success implementing a gradual-release model or tier-2 small-group interventions.
