    Job Title: SLC Aide FSLA: Nonexempt

    Reports to: Assigned Principal and SLC Teacher Pay Grade: Clerical/Para-2

    Revised: 2.11.2025 The SLC aide assists in meeting the physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities in a self-contained structured learning classroom by implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), including self-help, behavior management, and instructional programs, under the general supervision of the principal and the direct guidance of the certified teacher. Education/Certification:

    • High school diploma or GED
    • 48 college hours OR Paraprofessional Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (PAKS) Certification
    • Valid Texas educational aide certificate

    Special Knowledge/Skills:

    • Ability to work with children with disabilities
    • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
    • Ability to communicate effectively
    • Knowledge of general office equipment

    Experience:

    • Two years of child related work experience preferred

      1. Help teacher prepare instructional materials and classroom displays
      2. Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom
      3. Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment
      4. Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports
      5. Assist with the collection and input of data for the student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and School Health and Related Services (SHARS) program
      6. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers Student Management
      7. Assist students with physical disabilities based on their individual needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, positioning, and providing personal care support such as feeding, bathroom assistance, and personal hygiene

        1. Assist in managing student behavior, including intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous students, in accordance with the guidelines outlined in the Texas Behavioral Support Initiative (TBSI) and/or the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI)
        2. Recognize differences in each student's special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs and adapt methods and interaction accordingly
        3. Work with individual students or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by teacher
        4. Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty Other

        6. Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned
