We seek an innovative, passionate, and skilled Middle School Social Studies Teacher for the 2026-2027 academic year to help students develop critical thinking, a love for history, and a deep understanding of civics, geography, and cultural diversity. This position offers an opportunity to shape the minds of young learners and empower them to navigate their world as thoughtful, informed, and engaged citizens.
Responsibilities
Instructional Planning & Delivery
Develop and deliver engaging daily lessons that challenge and inspire students while meeting their diverse learning needs.
Plan lessons aligned with the College, Career, and Civic Life (C3) framework, emphasizing inquiry-based learning and civic engagement.
Use high-quality questioning techniques and foster engaging class discussions to build deep analytical skills.
Design and implement assessments that measure student understanding and progress.
Student-Centered Learning Environment
Create a respectful, safe, and supportive classroom culture that fosters curiosity and a love for learning.
Establish routines and expectations that promote effective classroom management and student engagement.
Build positive relationships with students, helping them feel valued and understood.
Data-Driven Instruction
Regularly analyze student performance data to tailor instruction, ensuring every learner makes measurable progress.
Provide differentiated support for students based on individual strengths and areas for growth.
Professional Collaboration & Growth
Participate actively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and campus-wide professional development sessions.
Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and develop interdisciplinary projects.
Accept and implement constructive feedback to continuously improve instructional practices.
Family & Community Engagement
Foster strong relationships with families through regular communication and opportunities for involvement in the learning process.
Partner with parents to celebrate successes and address challenges, supporting each student’s holistic growth.
Operational & School Culture Support
Maintain accurate records of student attendance, assessments, and progress.
Adhere to school policies and procedures, including professional attire and punctuality.
Participate in school events beyond regular hours, contributing to the vibrant Center City PCS community.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in an applicable subject area, as appropriate
Passing Praxis scores
Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience (preferred)
Familiarity with Common Core Shifts in ELA and the College, Career, and Civic Life (C3) framework
Demonstrates ability to use data to assess student learning, with evidence of growth
References that reflect high standing with a past employer
Able to lift to 10 pounds and able to stand for long hours
