JOB TITLE: Special Education Teacher
REPORTS TO: Program Director
TERMS: Teacher contract, 184 days per contract year
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the program director and special education director, the special education educator plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students with disabilities in accordance with a student's Individual Education Program (IEP).
Responsibilities
- Provide coordination for special education services including development of IEP's, and coordination of referrals to outside resources
- Accommodate the general education curriculum for students with disabilities based on upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologies
- Maintain accurate and compliant student records and prepare documentation as required by law
- Hold the case conference committee meetings to assist in developing measurable goals, benchmarks, and objectives to meet student's needs
- Regularly monitor the implementation of the student's IEP and provides progress reports to the student and/or family
- Develop compliant and comprehensive transition plans
- Clearly communicate students IEP accommodations to general education staff
- Ensure any needed accommodations and modifications on district, statewide, and national assessments are implemented according to the student's IEP
- Transition goal and portfolio development
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in Special Education; Licensed in special education-mild and/or intense certification required
- Experience using IIEP; preferred
- Demonstrates understanding of the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis; preferred
- Demonstrates an understanding of federal, state, and local mandates governing the determination and delivery of special education services
- Experience completing observations and reports pertaining to learning behaviors of students
- Must be able to successfully pass a background check
- Certification in CPI, willingness to be trained if not certified
