Join a team of deeply intentional educators at Hood River New School, where you’ll help craft a learning landscape that sparks curiosity and challenges the middle school brain. Teaching here is hands-on, community-rooted, genuinely collaborative, and we're looking for a Middle School Teacher who's ready to work alongside colleagues energized by the opportunity to invest in students’ lives and empower them to become the world-changing leaders of tomorrow.
The Role
You'll teach a mixed-age class of 6th–8th graders, integrating core subjects, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies through an interdisciplinary, project-based curriculum. You'll work alongside two other Core teachers, adapting a strong pre-built curriculum to the needs, interests, and culture of your students.
•Build a warm, inclusive classroom where students feel safe taking intellectual and personal risks
•Differentiate instruction across a wide range of learning styles and abilities
•Guide hands-on projects that connect academic content to real-world questions
•Teach core subjects using a structured curriculum as your starting point, adapting as needed
•Plan, reflect, and refine curriculum alongside fellow Core teachers
•Co-lead outdoor education, fieldwork, or community service experiences that extend learning beyond the classroom
•Teach a weekly elective in something you love coding, ceramics, athletics, journalism, or something we haven't thought of yet
•Organize field trips and invite guest speakers
•Build partnerships with local community organizations
•Communicate regularly and thoughtfully with families
•Deep relationships with a small cohort you'll mentor closely
•Mixed-age classrooms that encourage collaboration, leadership, and individualized learning
•Outdoor education and community engagement woven into the weekly schedule
•A collaborative faculty culture built on trust, shared purpose, and professional respect
•Real influence in shaping curriculum, school culture, and student experiences
•Build trusting relationships with students, families, and colleagues naturally
•Understand the academic, social, and emotional landscape of early adolescence
•Hold (or are eligible for) an Oregon elementary or middle school teaching license
•Have experience teaching middle school and have a deep passion for this age group
•Are energized by collaboration
•Passionate about revolutionizing learning through technology
•Bring multiple academic endorsements (preferred but not required)
Competitive salary based on experience and education.
