Pathways High Middle seeks a self-directed, entrepreneurial, and collaborative Middle School Teacher who believes deeply in the potential of all students. The teacher works in partnership with a team of teaching and administrative staff to create a student-centered, rigorous learning community where students see themselves as capable learners .

This role serves students in grades 6-8 in a small, self-contained learning environment of approximately 12-25 students total across all three grade levels. The teacher supports learning across multiple content areas while building strong relationships and a cohesive learning community. Dedicated prep time is provided, along with separate curriculum and/or specialist teachers for mathematics and special areas such as art, music, and physical education.

As the first year of a new middle school program, this position offers a unique opportunity to help design and shape Pathways High Middle from the ground up. Teachers will receive summer Project-Based Learning (PBL) training, ongoing coaching support throughout the year, and ready-to-use projects, with space for creativity and iteration. This role is ideal for an educator who enjoys innovation, collaboration, and dreaming about what school can be, while building something meaningful for students.

Teacher Responsibilities

  • Instruction & Planning: Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects. Ensure learning opportunities align with the Pathways High mission.

  • Project-Based Learning: Employ a variety of instructional techniques consistent with the needs and capabilities of all students, focusing on the ongoing integration of all curricular areas.

  • Assessment: Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis, provide progress reports as required, and inform students of the criteria used for evaluation.

  • Classroom Environment: Create a classroom climate which encourages each student to strive for excellence and is conducive to the interests of the students.

  • Relationships: Develop relationships with each child that enable you to provide insight into unmet needs. Seek to understand family needs and communicate proactively with families.

  • Accountability: Develop accountability measures for students that demonstrate the capacity to support student growth.

  • Communication: Provide positive feedback regularly to parents that demonstrates your knowledge of their student''s abilities and areas of growth. Communicate needs, questions and concerns with administration.

  • Professional Collaboration and Growth: Participate with other teachers in the development of programs and events for their grade levels. Attend professional development and seek new learning opportunities that support the Pathways High Middle model.

  • Mindset: Maintain an unrelenting belief in each student''s ability to learn and leverage student interests to create optimal conditions for success. Approach situations with an asset mindset.

  • School Culture: Attend school events outside of the school day as appropriate to the assignment, such as Student Exhibitions or performances.
