MIG Welder – Heavy Manufacturing & Rail Equipment

Position Summary

Seeking an experienced MIG Welder to support heavy manufacturing and rail equipment fabrication. This role involves welding, fitting, and assembling metal components using blueprints, fixtures, and precision measuring tools to meet strict production and quality standards. Ideal candidates bring experience in structural welding, fabrication, and industrial environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform MIG welding using wire up to .045 on structural steel and metal components
  • Set up, position, and secure parts and assemblies according to blueprints and technical drawings
  • Weld materials up to 2 inches thick in flat, vertical, and angled positions
  • Preheat components up to 450°F to meet welding specifications
  • Interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication diagrams
  • Inspect weld preparations including grooves, angles, gaps, alignment, and surface defects
  • Use grinders, chisels, and pneumatic tools for surface finishing and defect removal
  • Maintain and perform daily setup and maintenance of welding equipment
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, quality control procedures, and production goals
  • Collaborate effectively in a team-based manufacturing environment
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of MIG welding experience with a recent welding certification (within 2 years) OR 5+ years of equivalent hands-on welding experience
  • Strong experience with MIG welding equipment setup, operation, and troubleshooting
  • Ability to read and interpret welding blueprints and technical drawings
  • Proficient in using precision measuring tools, including reading a tape measure to 1/32”
  • Experience using layout tools such as carpenter’s square, combination square, and levels
  • Familiarity with pneumatic and electric grinding tools
  • High attention to detail with focus on accuracy, weld quality, and defect detection
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work well with teammates and supervisors
  • Proven ability to meet production deadlines and performance goals
  • Reliable attendance and strong safety-oriented mindset
  • Willingness to work overtime, flexible hours, and weekends as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Air Carbon Arc Gouging (Air Arc)
  • Experience with hard-facing wire applications (e.g., Stoody)
