The Welder I uses hand welding equipment to weld or join metal
components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal
products.
**Duties and responsibilities**
- Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions
- Verify that parts being used in welding process are consistent and
proper to adhere to requirements per first piece produced
- Monitor quality to assure consistent and acceptable welds
- Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces with
straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications
- Review and interpret engineer change requests when needed and submit
change requests to improve production
- Understand the amount of pieces that need to be welded per hour,
required welded pieces per job, and be able to achieve those goals
- Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits
- Recognize, set up and operate hand and power tools common to the
welding trade
- Consists of using welding equipment such as MIG/TIG/Stick
- Keep the assigned workstation swept and cleaned as necessary; keep
clutter and trip hazards out of work areas
- Use PPE, per training, as required for the specific task being
performed
- Other jobs and/or duties as directed by fabrication supervisor
**Qualifications**
Interpret blueprints, welding symbols and layout instructions
- **Education/Experience**
- High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate)
- Technical certificate or vocational training in welding or
equivalent of experience
